Why did you pick the color you picked?

I started typing this for a different thread, but figured it might be a hijack...

What makes people appreciate this color scheme over that color scheme with their REOs?

I sometimes sort of wonder what I'm missing out on with the caring about the color... I mean, I know I'm missing something because I've never been able to buy furniture, appliances, or even pillowcases without seeing that look in my wife's eyes that tells me whatever it was doesn't fit the decor.... and honestly, I have no idea what 'decor' is. When I need a new towel or whatever, I grab the one on top of the nearest stack of appropriately sized towels and take it to the cash register. When I need a new shirt, I grab one off the stack of appropriately sized shirts and take it to the cash register (and somehow I'm occasionally told things like a sky blue shirt doesn't "work" with a brown belt, and black shoes... I don't know what "work" means in this context... baffling to me when the items are doing what I want them to do including covering my feet, keeping my pants from falling down, and providing me protection from getting a sunburnt back).

So it has been with my REOs. When I got my mini, they all looked pretty good so I clicked one that was listed as available and bought it. When I got my VVW, I clicked one on the last page for no other reason than I thought the site traffic that had almost melted down the website that night might work to my benefit if I picked one on the last page (and I was right - it was probably the difference between me getting one and not getting one). When I ordered my SL, there were only a few available and I just clicked one. I guess the one I clicked has a similar color scheme as the mini I got a couple of years ago, but that didn't really enter my mind.... Understanding what makes people like or dislike a color or choose one useful thing over another identically useful thing simply based on the paint or pigment is something I need to work on, I think (at least for my wife's benefit, if not my own).

So... all of that said: Is there something you wanted to match with the color scheme? Is there a place you will use it more often than other places where it might need to "fit in"? Would a bright color help you find it if misplaced? Do you want it to attract attention, or perhaps be more camouflaged? Do folks just have "favorite colors" like kids say they do? Does the really nice variety of colors REOs have now make you more likely to get a second (or third or 10th or whatever) one because it's a different color than whatever you have now?

I match mine to my various purses......probably not something you'd shoot for. I get that. also, I have favorite colors....like PINK, so I have a couple of pink REOs.....also, I have one with a door that matches my car.

a couple? could you please twist the knife the other way next time? :)

I find myself looking at drip tips and immediately bringing up the Reo site to see what colors will go with it. I have 2 minis coming my way and both have their own schemes (tips/attys/button covers). Plus if I stay with one size I can change out the doors to fit tips/atty or even my mood! lol

I really never obsessed with other mods - even the 4 Provaris I had all had the same type of plastic tips and Kayfuns - only the mod was different colors. To me they were the battery holder for my atty - nothing more.

With the Reos, for me anyway, it's easy. I know they work - work the same every time - but they are so versatile now with so many attys available, LP/SL, changing out the doors. They have a character that invites people to ask "What the hell is that??" - I just smile and pop my tip off so they can use their own tip and say "Give it a squonk and see for yourself"...

I do that, too. We have a local monthly vape meet and I pop my atties off to let others try it so often that most of them are loose and wobbly. Ha.

Actually, I have three counting the VV Grand with the pink door.....so you see, Mama, I was trying to be nice.

don't count. i have a VVG with a pink door too. decided it wasn't a good fit for my daughter. i did see a pink Grand on reosmods not too long ago, but it was gone before i could decide whether my daughter would rather have a mini. i'll probly just end up PMing Robert.

but i'll never stop giving you a hard time :)

I prefer stainless when possible, as these cleans easily w.out fading. Painted colors fades with time, so does some chrome plated ones, or the plating will peel (so does some painted colors).

And for the see through window, I prefer clear, so that I can see the color of the e-jiuce, Hard to tell when scorching with a colored window.

No...haven't posted any other pics yet. Got it from the Man...not classies. Was a blem (yeh, right!!!) that he let me grab because I'm special...... It's Cocobolo with a white streak through it. I'll post some pics pretty soon. Actually, it's amazing how the door fits and blends. Amazing. Really. The stripe is all the way around the side and about a half inch on the back. Very, very unique and beautiful.

aah. i think Karen called those "Mexican cocobolo". i have one, but the stripe is only on the side and doesn't extend to the door. yours is pretty unique. maybe include a pic with the door on, and one offset a bit, to highlight the door match.

and we all know you are very special :)

I just can't do pics on my iPad, and I don't have the laptop booted up right now. It is Mexican Cocobolo...and Karen has one, too. This was a blem and he didn't have it up on sale night, but I got it. There's a "scar" on one corner of the door...sort of a gouge or a small chip out of it, but that just gives it character to me. I will post some pics pretty soon, probably in the pictures thread.

I only have 2, a black anno grand with silver door, and an LP TRA, but put a black door on it. I guess I am into the black and silver look, but I actually did jump out of the box and put a red door on the LP! Looks really cool. Even looks cool with the black cyclone afc on top. I guess I am starting to like colors a bit. I've seen some really smart looking LPs and SLs in Kawasaki green with different doors, reds, blues and yellows. I'm haven't gone as far as fancy, color coordinated drip tips, custom button covers, except the black and silver ones. I know my next one will be an SL, but not a clue as to what color I want now. I'm not good at color fashion by any means, so I will get what I think looks cool.

I'm with ya six .......

Well with REOs at least ...... I am quite a snazzy dresser and spend way too much money on clothes and shoes....

But REOs don't really care what color ...... as long as its a single color !!

Bunch o' people are gonna jump me here but might as well put it out there. I think 2 tone REOs look dumb!
Every REO I've ever purchase has been matching door an body ... Including woods.

I pick the metals based on texture and durability usually.

The smooth color PC feels really wrong to me .... it makes my hand sweaty in 10 seconds flat.

I like the following the most in order.

Anodized .... big time .... any color but black is just fine with me.
Black wrinkle
Silver hammer tone

Other things that I don't give a crap about color ..... Cars at the top of the list.
If they have some god awful color they are willing to let go 300 bucks cheaper I'm on that like white on rice (so to speak)

^^ I get a good laugh when I hear someone say "I got a new car" and the persons firs reply is "what color did you get?" ..... Not what kind, does it get good mileage, did you get a good deal.

I've only got 2 (but hopefully not for long).

Bought my first Grand in TRA. Chose it for durability and utilitarian looks. Loved the raw metal w/ tumble marks. Once the marks wore off, I polished it to a nice shine. While it looks fantastic all shiny and whatnot, I quickly got tired of polishing & polishing to maintain it.

So for my next REO ( a mini 2.1) I got the TRA but with a clearcoat finish. The best of both worlds: a low-maintenance shine and the coolness of the tumble marks.

Up next a COLORED LP/SL because, well, I'm ready for some color! And a Black Wrinkle 2.1 for durability & grip.
