I grew up in the 'fifties (yeah, I know, I'm an Old Fart)..EVERYONE smoked.....EVERYWHERE. There were no "No Smoking" areas, even in Hospitals (except where Oxygen was in use). People were smoking in Restaurants, Buses, Movie Theaters, and they even gave away free cigs with your meal on Airplanes (you could smoke anywhere on the plane back then).
I remember going to the Dentist and he used to take a drag on his cig every few minutes while he was working on me. Same with my Doctor. We had a cigarette machine in my High School, and they had a "smoker's lounge" for the teachers, and a separate one for students!
Doctors used to advertise for cigarettes on TV, and most of the sponsorship of Television programs was by cigar or cigarette companies. When I mention this stuff to people (who weren't there) they think I'm crazy..... it was a different time.
