How long did you smoke for? Why did you smoke? When did you quit? Just curious!

Smoked a pack to a pack, and a half daily for 29 years.
How I started is kind of a stupid story but I'll tell you anyway.
Crusing around in my buddies camero a notice a cute chick sitting out in front of a house in my buddies neighborhood having a smoke.
I told him to pull over since I wanted to meet this girl.
He did, and I got out, and walked up to her. Being 16, and at a loss for what to say I asked to bum a smoke.
She gave me one, and we proceeded to have a nice conversation.
A year later her, and I no longer saw each other but the cigarette addiction was firmly entrenched.
Like I said......stupid.
Tried the patch, the gum, cheapo eCigs from the local gas station, and cold turkey.
I wanted to quit for my wife, my kids, and mostly for myself but just couldn't get past the first week before I was smoking again.
I smoked my last cigarette on Feb 18, 2014 in the morning when I got up. I had recently purchased an iTaste MVP with iClear 30 tank, and some juice at the local smoke shop the night before.
I started vaping it on the way to work instead of smoking.
At break I vaped instead of smoking, and to my amazement I didn't have the cravings for a cigarette.
Lunch went like break, and at the end of my work day I gave away the last 2 smokes I had in the pack I brought (in case it didn't work for me), and my lighter.
Haven't looked back since, and don't plan to.

Health:
Found I was swallowing a lot of air (from the dry mouth of vaping, and possibly from the nic level I started it).
This gave me some gas pain during the first couple days but increasing my water intake cured this.

Started at 18mg Nicotine. This was too high since my cheeks would go numb from vaping it, and the throat hit was too much for me.
Lowered to 12mg but still was high.
Currently at 10mg, and feel pretty good there but may even lower it to 8mg on the next batch of juice I make since I can vape enough to get slightly numb cheeks even at 10mg.

Finally I have found something that works for me, and although there is a 'learning curve' I currently have a vape I really enjoy, and that keeps me off the 'death sticks'.
It has become kind of a hobby though as well.
Currently running a mechanical mod with a modded KayFun Addy, and vaping DIY juices that a good friend of mine is making for me as well as teaching me to make on my own.
I have noticed that my sense of smell (especially of cigarettes), sense of taste, and lung capacity have all increased dramatically even though I am only on day 19 of not smoking.
Currently having a good time vaping some tasty juices, wrapping different types of coils, and enjoying the freedom from cigarettes.

Hey Tatiana and welcome to the forums! :)

I am a 25 year old female and your post really spoke to me!

I've been smoking for 7 years.... A girlfriend and I just started buying packs for "fun" and it just continued from there on out.

Over the last 2 years, I started to feel REALLY, REALLY crappy about the choice I was making. My boyfriend and I went on a down south vacation (I was 23 at the time) and I wanted to partake in all the activities and I was out of breath ALL THE TIME!!!! That really had a HUGE impact on me. I couldn't believe how this 23 year old girl, who other than the smoking is in fairly good health, was constantly out of breath and unable to "keep up". I'm young and I have my whole life ahead of me. Why am I CHOOSING to make it a stinky, expensive, unhealthy one? How on earth will I quit if I decide I want to get pregnant? I'd feel like an idiot going outside in freezing temperatures just to get my fix. I hated the smell all over me, on my coat, in my hair and I knew it was just time.

My boyfriend quit cold turkey about 6 months ago like a total CHAMP and I couldn't believe how easy it was for him. I have thought about it every single day since then and just couldn't fathom not having my morning cigarette or my after meal cigarette. But I felt so disgusting when we'd kiss and I knew I smelled and tasted like cigs. I felt even worse smoking near him and having him inhale my second hand poison.

Over the last month or so, a bunch of my collegues started switching over to ecigs. I'd ask alot of questions but figured they were just in the "right mindset" to quit which is why they weren't really having a hard time. I had bought those cheap ~$10 disposable ecigs at a convenience store a couple of times and they were totally useless so I figured the ones everyone was now smoking were the same crap. Then last week, another one of my collegues converted and something about his story just convinced me to take the plunge. And so I did and I AM SOOOOOOOO HAPPY I DID!!!!!!

I've had a couple of puffs of analogs on various days during and the week. Not because I HAD to but because I was curious to see how it would feel. Believe or not, they absolutely disgust me. Just being able to say/write that I find MY cigarettes disgusting, makes me feel so proud!!!!

Thank you to everyone on these forums for all of the useful information!!!

Happy vaping to everyone!!!

Smoked for 35+ years (Marlboro), bought a Zmax with a cardo tank (now using a Kanger PT II) before thanksgiving in 2012 and haven't had a cigarette since. Well, might of cheated once or twice in the beginning. :)
Juice is a mix of Red & White and Turkish blend. Still want a cigarette tasting blend and don't like 'fruity' flavors (no offense to anyone).
Went from $30 every 2-3 days to less than $30 a month. Feeling better every day since I quit smoking analogs. Wish I would of done this years ago.

Love reading stuff like this. Congrats!

I smoked for about 20 years, I stopped smoking like 3 years ago using e-cigs, this the only thing that ever worked for me, I didn't try the patch or the gum, or any of the stuff because they did not have that hand to mouth action I needed in order to quit.
The first e-cig I picked up was from a truck stop, and I used it right away, and I was like this isn't bad at all, but the thing I couldn't get used to was It didn't get smaller as I used it, so I didn't really know Whalen to put it down. Lol
I smoked 1 analog after I vaped the first time, put that analog out early, picked up my new e-cig and just kept puffing on it, and it probably saved my life, or at least added some years onto it.

I was a pack and a half a day smoker for 13 years. four years ago I quit for 5 months using Chantix but I slipped right back into it. then a couple months ago I tried a couple different cig-a-likes but they were so horrible I couldn't get my hands on an analog fast enough. Then I was introduced to the ego style and I haven't touched an analog in two weeks. I know it hasn't been a long time but I'm extremely confident the setup I'm using now will be my ticket to freedom.

I've smoked for 20 years and I've just started vaping recently.

The switch to vaping is life changing. I would say I am a heavy smoker and have never been able to reduce my intake or quit this nasty habit.
Since the first day of switching, I'm only smoking 3-5 sticks of cigarettes per day. In fact, I'm highly confident I can make a full switch to vaping once I've finished my last 3 packs.

:)

I smoked for 49 years. Started out, like many others at the time, because it was "cool". As time went on, smoking became a stress reducer and an appetite suppressor. I quickly got up to a pack to pack and a half level. In the good 'ol days in the Navy I could get a carton of cigarettes for a dollar, and vending machines dispensed a pack for a quarter. After smoking was banned from the workplace, I found that smoking was a good way to get away from my desk for a break periodically. I also enjoyed the camaraderie of the "smokers" group, first in the smoking area and then later outside the building. Since I basically liked smoking these became my rationale for continuing smoking.

In the last couple of years, I developed a really nasty "smoker's cough and the cost was really climbing. If my wife and I were still smoking we would be spending over $6,000 per year.

We tried e-cigs in 2010 but they were just not satisfying and the choices for flavor were very limited. March 15, 2013, a co-worker had an e-cig (eGo battery topped with a Kanger T3) that was producing a lot of "smoke" (vapor) and tasted great. That day, after work, I bought a like setup. After I got home, my wife tried it and loved it too. The next day I went back and bought her a setup of her own. That was the end of cigarettes for both of us. Next week, it will be one year since we quit smoking cigarettes. My wife is still using the same eGo and T3 (with a bunch or spares), but for me vaping has become a new hobby and passion. My primary vape today is a Vamo or SVD topped with a Kanger Lite+ or a Russian 91%. And I now recoil and rewick everything and mix my own juices and have cut my nic level to somewhere around 3 to 4 mg.

I should mention that that cough went away within a week of giving up cigs, and I'm feeling good.

Vape on!

Simply awesome for both you, and your wife.
I too have got into the hobby end of it but the underlying reason of getting off the cigarettes remains.

Hi there. My name is Chris and I was a smoker of camel filters at 2 packs a day for 20 years. I had been wanting to quit smoking for a long time but it really gets a hold on you. One of my good friends knew this and bought a starter kit from smoketip for me and asked that I just try it. If he cared enough about me to spend his money on my well being then I definitely cared enough to give it a try. It worked! The smoketips were good enough for me to quit. I haven't had an analog since that day... Which was over 3 years ago.

Well, I continued vaping those smoketip for 3 years and really liked the flavor but it was pretty variable. I love to vape and would usually carry several of those little cigarette looking batteries with me all day as well as several cartridges. Then one day I was talking with a coworker that happened to notice me vaping. He showed me his evod and told me all about ejuice and mods. I had no idea there was other vaping options out there. I spent 3 dang years vaping those annoying little smoketips before I purchased my first mod. Now I vape on an itaste 134 with an aspire nautilus tank loaded with the magnificent bobas bounty. Frigging amazing taste and vapor.

I currently have an epipe mod on order and anxiously await it's arrival. Now I vape how I want with the wonderful flavors I love and can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. Vaping certainly changed my life.

Keep the stories coming. I love reading them. Thanks.

I smoked since I was 16 circa 1996. I remember it was a very conscious decision. Over the years, I tried quitting a few times using various forms. They weren't altogether unsuccessful. However, after 6-8 months and one social drink too many, there I was smoking again. When I started vaping in December, I never thought about cigarettes again. I completely feel better in every way :) good luck to you!! xoxo

Been smoking for 47 or 48 years now. Between my wife and I we were spending just under $1000 a month. Now in Canada the price is going up again and would be spending over $1000. We Quit smoking In Jan/14 and I have only had 2 cigs since then. Just want to see what if anything I was missing. NOTHING!! I liked the Vape better. The Wife, she still smokes the odd time but very little. We are getting there one vape at a time.:)

I'm 34 and have been smoking for 20 years. Now vaping off and on for 1 1/2 years. Until recently I just couldn't find a I flavor that I could stand for more than a few days. I was buying the Chinese liquids from a small stand in our mall. Until now it has only helped me to slow my analog use, but since finding vermillion river ejuice, I find it's perfect for me. Now cigs taste like crap

I started smoking (in 1976) because my girlfriend did, as well as everyone else on the construction job I had during the summer. 37 years later (last year) I started vaping, and perfectly happy doing so, not to mention the ton of $ I am saving....

with a pack of butts being over 10$ here in BC, I figure my vaping habit costs approx. 10$ a week as apposed to 10$ a day!!!
