Why Do I Have to Steep Juice?

I agree with the previous posters who compared juice to the aging process of certain food & alcohol.

I purchase made-to-order juices, and also some that are pretty fresh (perhaps within a few days prior to ordering, is my best guess).

My method is to simply let them sit in a dark cupboard. I'll give each bottle a shake or two each day. I'll remove their caps for maybe a few minutes here & there. That's it.

Countless examples, but I'll just talk about the one I'm vaping as I type: Waffle, by Backwoods Brew. A fairly popular brand, as it ranked #3 on a looong-running thread here on ECF asking for people's top 5 juice brands. From what I can gather, a fairly small mom-&-pop operation but which obviously has a following.

Anyway, on the bottle's label it has a "born-on date." It was mixed the day after I ordered it.

Per their website, BWB recommends a minimum 3-day steeping time for this particular flavor. Well, I received it in the mail 3 days after the born-on date. I let it sit until it hit room temperature, filled up my tank, and :vapor:

Pretty tasty! Maple syrup was the dominant flavor, with some waffle taste, followed by a bit of butter taste.

Fast forward another several days. The maple has toned down somewhat, and the buttery waffle is now more pronounced. The juice's flavor has definitely changed to something even better.

Some people don't "buy into" the whole steeping thing. Who knows.. maybe their tastebuds are off, maybe they haven't experienced made-to-order and/or very fresh juice.

All I know is what I taste, and I'm certainly a steeping subscriber... :toast:

I'd have to say whether you buy from a B&M or online all the juice is made to order. Freshly mixed up after you click the SEND button. It wouldn't make sense to make up the juice and let it steep, hoping someone buys it. 5Pawns has one juice that is the one exception I know of.

And honestly, do we really need science to show us that steeping works?!? Not really when my taste buds do a fine job for me. The other thing to consider when steeping is some of the flavors have alcohol in them. This alcohol flavor is very pronounced when first mixed. After steeping that goes away, presumably because the alcohol has evaporated out. For me, I don't like that alcohol taste and steeping gets rid of it.

At this point I don't think I have found a flavor that doesn't taste better after steeping for some amount of time. This is even more apparent in the juices I buy at the local B&M that uses 100% VG.

OK, kind of off-topic, but when I was at a local B&M, I was duscussing the topic of steeping with "the owner".
He explained to me that steeping is actually harmful, and does not recommend doing it with any of his juices. He also went forther ti explain that some people "have been diagnosed with mold in their lungs", and directly attributed this to steeping.
I've been vaping for over a year, and I've done quite a bit of reading and have NEVER heard of such a thing. I am a strong proponent of steeping and usually steep 3-5 days.
Has anyone else heard of this thing, or does it sound like someone who owns a storefront claiming to know it all?

Do a ECF Google search for "Mold" and "Lungs".

You'll see that this Urban Myth seems to surface about Every 6 Months or so. I guess during "Mold Season".

So, does he then recommend that his customers ONLY buy one or two of his flavors in small quantities, in the interest of protecting them from steeping their juices? Because the more they buy, some are going to steep based on how long it takes to go through the juice. :p

My guess would be no. LOL

I breed ball pythons. Sort of reminds me of the incorrect information I hear pet store employees regurgitate that drives me bonkers.

Did you know that toy dogs stay small because breeders intentionally starve the puppies to stunt their growth? I had a pet store employee argue with me that it's the God's honest truth because John (the pet store owner) told him so, after I overheard him tell some customers that. I was like "no they don't!"
