It seems like every smoker I let use mine end up coughing from it even though they smoke 10 to 20 cigs a day. I've never had this problem coming from smoking. It just seems weird to me.

it's a different kind of inhale. advise them to take a drag like they would from a pipe or a cigar rather than a cigarette.
Yeah the vapor is heavier than smoke and lungs are designed to reject that which isn't like clean fresh air. My first vape of each day is still like that a year later.
When I first got my ecig it seemed harsh to me. For some reason I was directly inhaling it. I was still smoking at the time, and finally noticed that when I smoked I pulled it into my mouth, then inhaled. I have no idea why I thought I should use the ecig differently.. but that's what I did. I wonder if some other smokers are doing the same?
I try a few cheap ecigs before quiting and I cough alot using them. After quitting smoking for a few weeks, I had no problems vaping.
Another thing you can do to lessen the coughing for them, if you have a vv/vw device, is to turn it way down. When my wife started with 0mg nic i had to turn the twist down to 3.2v when i refill it for her i turn it up a notch. 
I cough pretty much constantly while I'm vaping. on 12mg and 100%vg too--it's as smooth as I can get it and I still cough on exhale.

For vaping I inhale quite a bit slower and easier draw then how I dragged on a cigarette. Entirely different inhalation technique, it took a few days to master the difference.
I think inhalation technique is part of it. I hadn't smoked in ten ears when I tried an ( chewed Nicorette 10 years). I didn't cough. Because they smoke makes since to me. Especially the worse the lung damage the harder to get used to vape.

I actually didnt cough my first time but it was a cigalike with v2 red 12mg a friend had. I felt a little throat hit and quit smoking within a week after 20 years
Everyone i know coughs when they try my ecig because its 24mg lol. I like to watch the smokers suffer.
Two reasons. They either think its a toy because theyve already tried cheap Blu cigalikes or......

It's because they are taking "Lung hits" like smoking a cigarette. You have to tell them to draw the vapor SLOWLY into their mouth, and if they want to inhale it, then they draw it into their lungs....just a different technique.
Maybe it's just me, but I've never taken a lung hit with a cigarette, ever. It burned like holy hell. I can, however, take nice, huge 'lung hits' with my e-cig without any discomfort. If I'm trying to blow big clouds for the fun of it, I'll use that technique.
Do what works for you, though. If you can't tolerate inhaling the vapor directly into your lungs, don't do it.
Actually, I didn't and still don't know anyone who takes lung hits when they're smoking, and yes, I've asked.
I didn't know that technique existed for smoking anything but a certain other plant until I finally made an account on here and started reading some threads.
