Why do so many people criticize non-smokers who vape?

I am conscious of the perception and this has nothing to do with the OP.

I really do feel that vaping is a huge step in the right direction for getting away from cigs and I actively express that to those that make decisions. But, when non-smokers take up vaping and do it without the etiquette or realization that doing it in a socially unacceptable manner causes those decision makers to vote negatively, I feel vapers are hurting themselves.

I'm just trying to get away from cigs and it is working.

I started smoking when I was 13 ... I thought I was cool

I never understood people that took up smoking in their mid 20s
I guess I started when I was 19 and quit when i was 22. No not a smart choice. But i was curious and it was legal and my friends did it. Sorry I didn't smoke when I was 13 like you guys. I tried a red when I was like 16. Not a good experience. Had two puffs then I literally threw it out cuz it was so harsh. Little did I know I would smoke them later by the pack. Sorry I'm so young guys :/

the only vapers I look down on who don't smoke or are not previous smokers are the ones I personally know that do it because they think it's cool/popularity. other then that I honestly don't give a [edited] what you do with your life or how you spend the money you get. most of those people I know are teenagers. at that point it's like a grain of salt. although I look down on them I don't think much of it either because I was once a teenager I used to do dumb things like that and eventually they will outgrow that phase so although I say I look down on people like that I also don't care too much of the situation in general overall I think it's more of a money sink then anything at that point but I can't tell people what not to spend their own money on so we are basically back at square 1.

you should see my friends brother who vapes he will give you the a VERY GOOD reason why I say I look down on him. i'd label him as a [edited] but I'm sure he will outgrow that phase I mean he is only 18.

Going from never smoking to vaping would be, by definition, harm expansion would it not?

Unless they were entertaining thoughts of smoking and using vaping to head that off.

Again, it all really depends on the circumstances and intentions of the individual.

Sometimes, we don't get the whole story. Sometimes, even they don't know the whole story, it could be that they "need something" but are not fully conscious of it and that need to relax may eventually take them into smoking.

I know a lot of young people who are never smokers, then they get to college and final exam week and pulling all-nighters and start to smoke.

You really have to know people to give *good* advice. What we give here is advice but it's based on talking to complete and utter strangers, about whom we know nothing except what they tell us. :)

I think it's the fact that so many non-smokers (a lot of young ones) going into vaping as a hobby would mean the government has more excuse to ban vaping.

Also the fact that these non-smokers make vaping seem like a hobby, almost like something to play with. Big clouds and all. And that gives a bit of a negative image for those who use vaping as an aid to quit smoking.

As a former smoker, I don't have any issue with non-smokers vaping because I think it's completely their choice to make big clouds with 0mg juice or if they want to get hooked in nicotine themselves... What I have a problem with is that some people seem to think that it's fine to sell vaping gear to younger kids. And I hate seeing vendors selling them to kids openly, when smoking selling cigarettes to minors were on a down low, which made it that much more difficult to access for the younger ones.
