Most of us older people have spent years and tons of money on a bad habit. We get sick regularly, we stink, we've been broke and still bought cancer sticks and now they want smokers to pay twice as much for insurance. Now who in their right mind wants to start any habit remotely related. I personally think in the future there will be many discoveries relating to medicinal use for nic but we just aren't there yet. No hypocrisy at all I call it wisdom.

Lately I am seeing folks saying that they want to try vaping, I ask 'do you smoke?' they say no. Then why on earth try this?

I haven't yet read the rest of the thread, but I think this is a point I could give some insight on. Why on earth try this? Because it's cool. All the friends are doing it, and these flavors are awesome and taste so delicious, oh and that "awesome dude nic buuuuzzzz oh yeah bro!" mentality. e-cigarettes in their current state aren't just a replacement for cigarettes. Look to hookahs for an explination as to why they are gaining popularity with the youth. Look at the kiddos in the hookah shops, the 15 year-olds who somehow can get ahold of a hookah from an older brother, gather together with their friends, and partake in smoking the hookah. Look at your average e-cig store with the comfy couches, TVs, etc. Offering every fruity or chocolate flavor under the sun in an awesome little menu format like you're ordering a damn latte frappa mocha whatever.

That's why I think they want to try it. Though, my stance is, let them try it. Let them actively partake in it. Lower the age limit on e-cig brick & mortars. Better that than a hookah, or Bob forbid, cigarettes. Haven't we learned that restricting something from kids just makes them want it more? These things have the same attraction to the youth that soda in beer bottle shaped bottles have. Except the soda might actually be more dangerous for them than this.

Someday there will be a person that moves from vaping yummy flavors to inhaling burning chemicals from a cigarette that taste nasty.
But such a person would have to have been born with no taste buds, and no such person has been identified yet as far as I know.

And again, kids will be kids. If all of us did things that made sense when we were younger, there wouldn't have been near as many adventures and stories to tell about later on. ;) I started with a hookah originally, and they're quite tasty in the grand scheme things, and switched over to cigarettes... why? It was the cool thing to do! James Dean wasn't scooting around on his 1955 Triumph Trophy with a MVP tucked in his pocket. It was with his pal the Marlboro Man. :p If kids these days even know who that is...

Its a FAD. they do it because they think its cool.. which it is not. its an alternative to quit smoking NOT start!

Are you implying that vaping is a gateway to smoking? I do not believe that. Vaping is not a start to smoking.
I understand that it is a fad.. Teens do it because they think it is cool. But teens are going to do a lot of things because they think that.

I don't think he's saying it's a gateway to smoking cigarettes, more like it's pretty stupid to start an addiction to nicotine by vaping it. If they're vaping 0 mg then that's a different story

If vaping is to be an alternative to smoking tobacco then yes, people who havent smoked will try it and take it up. However it is a healthier alternative. People are always going to put less then healthy stuff in their body for kicks. Far better this way then remaining with the cancer sticks. As for negative public image. Its up to us vapors to change the public opinion through education.

Congrats for switching over to vaping from smoking!!!
There are, from time to time, vigilante groups crying wolf, out of fear the ANTZ will eat you for breakfast then vomit all over the rest of us. It's not right, but it is what it is.
I, we, most of us ex-smokers embrace all ages who have quit smoking! Heck, many of us are gleeful in knowing that curious George's are experimenting with zero nic hookah pens instead of a pack of smokes. Like many others, I too wish vaping was around when I was your age! I'd have quit smoking over 30 years ago. Are we happy? You bet your sweet Bippy we are.
Have you seen the imPROOF movement yet? Do you have FB? Do you do YouTube?
I'd love to see a huge swarm of brave youngsters telling the CDC, FDA, officials, like it is. There's no excuse for not letting everybody who wants to quit or not become addicted in the first place. None.
Anyway, what Rosa, DC, the others say, I echo loud and clear too. Congrats!!

Thank you guys so much for replying. I knew I loved the attitude and people of this forum. Its nice to know some people support it. I tried getting my mom off of cigarettes with one of my old devices and she refused to even try it. I wish there would be more people out there like you guys. And Uma, I have not seen the imPROOF movement. I do have Facebook and I do use YouTube daily. If there's anything I can do to help with the fight against all these bans they want to put up I'll do it. We have a choice to better our lives, why take it away from us or put restrictions on it. I just don't get the government or our so called "leaders" of the world.

Young people are going to experiment. I experimented too. It is a part of growing up. However, I became a life long smoker and spent far too much money on a habit that I could not break.

Hopefully I stopped prior to doing too much damage to my body.

When you are 18, you are invulnerable, It won't happen to me, you say. That's how addictions get started.

As with any addiction, the risks of such an addiction have to be weighed.

If someone were addicted to drugs or alcohol, I'd much rather have them smoke than continue to see them use. The drugs and alcohol will more likely kill you earlier. If you are a smoker, I'd rather see you vape for the same reasons.

However, as someone who is already addicted and trying to wean my self off nicotine, I can't recommend this product to anyone who isn't already addicted. I have an ex smoker who saw me use my PV as a way to quit smoking cigarettes. He wondered if he should start vaping as well, and I told him no. He had been an ex-smoker for quite some time. There is no reason to vape if you don't need to. Vapiing Nicotine can be expensive as well.

Health insurance companies are now charging surcharges of up to 50% extra for tobacco users. Vapers who vape nicotine fall into that category. I am attempting to get off nicotine so that I don't have the surcharge. I will continue to vape zero nicotine juice as a safeguard against smoking again.
