Tried to explain this to my Dad on the phone this morning. I was trying to prepare him for the onslaught of packages that should start rolling in later today and for most of the week... The list is sick... and I added more to it... upwards of 500$

Now i did get some extra money I wasnt expecting, and I have been smoke free for 6 months using some pretty awful cig-a-likes, 650mh ego batteries, and plastic disposable tanks. My only exposure to decent flavors and gear has been limited.

To me no amount of money can replace damaged lung tissue. No amount of money washes away the constant stink on my clothes, in, my car, on my breath and hands. The bare minimum 10$ a day I would spend on smokes and have nothing to show for it aside from health problems and dirty ashtrays. The 1,332$ I would have spent on smokes not including lighters, compared to the money I just spent on some really sweet ... ..... that tastes amazing, is fun to tinker with, and gives me a little hobby...

I really got serious about quitting and did 6 months ago, mostly because my wife hated me smoking. She had an affair with a co-worker ( worked at the same EMS agency me and my paramedic wife worked for... awkward? ), things got ugly and I got a paramedic job off shore to prevent me from killing anyone. I wanted to light up many many times but hung in there, and I am happy I did. Divorce was final Nov 13th, I was pretty unhappy, I wanted to smoke... but I hung in there!

I am single and have almost zero bills. I have every reason in the world to want to smoke, but decided to spend a god awful amount of money on vaping gear of every shape and size ( giving my old stuff and the 5 ego starters away as gifts )...

How do you justify what you spend on vaping? Is it less or more than smoking? Like the hobby? Like the tech? Discuss...

you either become a collector or you get over it.
i was a collector for months then i got tired of having more stuff then i can use and sold most of it in the classies.
all the time things catch my eye and i say oooo i want that but then i stop and think about it. and i finally start to reason it out to - it will just sit here like the other stuff or how many drippers can you own before you realize I like this one and most are the same on the inside anyways.

its fun to look but you have to start thinking about do a really need another XXXX?

i think it starts as the need to give up smoking and becomes a hobby when you buy cheap crap stuff and pretty soon you find that it has to be replaced due to the bad quality of most starter kits. I started vaping and in a week or two found that i could get more vapour which i am glad i did because i was on my way back to smoking i have only spent about 200 english pounds so far but for that i have 4 ego batts a pro tank 2 protank mini 2 and 4 evods an mpv2 and some diy ejucie gear and stuff to rebuild all the bad heads that you buy from the shops i can see this stuff lasting a while but if i was single and had no kids i am sure this would be a lot more as i keep seeing great stuff i want just cant afford

Well, before I started vaping, I found a killer deal on a Traxxas Slash rc car. $19.99 at a thrift shop. They usually run $250+. My stepson has autism, and loves to tinker with stuff, and really really enjoys smashing this car into things, and launching it 15' in the air.. $250 later we got this thing bullet proof, and clocked at 57mph by a local police officer. Good stuff....but I was still spending $15-30 every other week for gears and tires and other stuff....

My initial vaping investment was about $45. 30 days later, got a clone mod. Then I got into rebuildables. So now, I think I can actually save some money, because buying different tanks and heads and coils was just silly. The next things Im getting is a couple more batteries, and some magnets for a switch conversion. That should cover it for awhile. My juice habit is about 20ml a week so that aint to bad.

All that being said...Im trying to justify spending $175 on the Atmizoo Roller....even though my $60 Chiclone gets the job done...

I'd explain it as "chasing the dragon". You are searching for an idea or some tangible goal that you're trying to reach or achieve, but you've never experienced it personally. It's something that, in theory, is perfect and would be the pinnacle of the experience.

In this case, it's vaping. You are searching for that perfect vape. You have very little idea what that perfect vape is, but you have an idea of what it isn't. Each new flavor, atomizer, or mechanical mod you try gets you closer to the realization of what that "perfection" is. Some have a better idea than others.

The enjoyment comes from the trip, or the experiences in the pursuit of this perfection more so than the end product.

My enjoyment is watching the savings add up on my spreadsheet. :D I'm up $1,607.40 and climbing since the gear acquisition in the beginning is over with. I have a few reliable PV's and still use the same clearo system that I love and know Very well. I don't rebuild. I must say that last Christmas and this past birthday were very good  Those Provari did not get put on the spreadsheet since they were gifts. I did buy one that did go on the spreadsheet. I'm on cruise control. Replacement heads every few months and liquids every other month or so.

I'm not smoking and am totally satisfied with my setup. Yep, every Friday I put in the amount I would have spent on cigs and I Love seeing the savings go up! Can't wait till I hit $2,000 saved.

It comes down to human nature..

"Nature abhors a vacuum".

When you stop spending money on something or change a habit, something ALWAYS's come's in to replace it.. A good habit or a bad habit.. Now the money you were spending on smokes also needs to go somewhere, so usually at a minimum that amount goes into vaping gear, unless you are good and can actually put that money away for some other habit..

SO with vaping you are starting a habit to replace the habit you had..cost more??? probably.. ;)

So far I've spent about $1,000 on vape gear and DIY supplies for me and the wife. I haven't had a cig since 11 Feb and she's down to about 5 a day from a pack a day. If I add up what I would have spent on cigs it would have been around $2100 ($7.5 x 280) so that means I saved about $1100 so far! I think the reason most people think they spend more on vaping (at first) is that the purchase price of hardware is a lot more than a pack of cigs but in the long run its cheaper but, really who cares if it keeps us off cigs?

Of course I'm waiting on vape mail today

I spend way more on vaping than I would on cigarettes. A few weeks ago, I bought some new clearos, RBAs, and a ton of DIY supplies. I told myself that would be IT. NO MORE for at least a little while, as I have tons of liquid that I haven't vaped and lots of attys and clearos that work fine and more batteries than I would ever need. I told myself I would be saving money.

A week later, I order another battery, another RBA, more clearos/tanks, and an order of juice. I just can't seem to stop myself. And before every purchase, I mull over my order, thinking about the cost and whether I actually need it or not (which I don't), but I WANT it. And so, I can't help myself and I make my purchase and feel guilty for a moment but then get excited about receiving the package.

I think it's kind of a flavor and quality chase for us. We keep looking for that better flavor and better equipment and half the fun is waiting for the package, reading about it, and trying it out. If we could only be happy with what we got but.. yea. My boyfriend doesn't vape but he used to smoke cigarettes. He quit the old fashioned way along with a few weeks of nicotine patches to help him through. He thinks I spend entirely too much money on vaping gear but at the same time, he says he gets it. "People need this stuff... the nicotine.. it's a drug people are addicted to and it comes in many different flavors and its very appealing."

Ah... I'm gonna have fun explaining this stuff to his parents when they come over for Thanksgiving. They will probably take one look at my table full of vape gear and think "What the heck is all this stuff? This is ALL for your smoking alternative?"
