why does my SS temp control coil taste worse than Kanthal?

Avoiding or at least reducing the harshness of dry hit's is NOT the primary purpose of TC but more of a bonus effect. As I said above and explained with my charts, the primary purpose is to get a fast ramp up with a capped max temp so you do not over heat your juice to the point it starts breaking down into other chemicals.

Think of it like the temp dial on your oven. You set the dial to 350F and then gas ovens push LOTS of gas and make a large fire underneath (or the electric heating elements get red hot) to heat the oven to temp quickly. Then once 350F is reached it backs off of the gas or electricity and keeps adjusting to keep the oven at that temp.

I was a wattage vaper for my first year.

Once I got a couple of mods that were better at TC I then started playing. I vape at around 15w MTL using a 0.5 ohm coil. Even though my 28 gauge SS316l coils ramped up almost instantly, that was another factor for trying TC. I could care less about dry hits ;)

I started with TCR mode, set at 0.00092, 17.5 watts and 420 F. What I ended up with was even better ramp up, and a completely consistent cool vape.

The explanation about the superior taste of kanthal vs steel and NiCr as follows.
The Kanthal alloy contains some aluminium. When heated up, the kanthal wire, by action of heat and oxygen in the air, forms a tiny layer of aluminium oxide on the surface.
This oxyde is extremely tough, and an electrical insulator.

The hard anodising finish of expensive devices is aluminium oxyde. Sapphire, the gemstone, is aluminium oxyde.

The e-liquid in contact with kanthal finds a better interface, as it is not exposed to the electrical voltage present across the coil, and is prevented any parasitic chemical reaction with the hot metal.

Note that some e-liquids tastes very different, some much less so, depending on their composition.

    Hope this helps,

I stick to one-two types of wire to make my coils. But, I still only use wattage mode.

Important thing for me is to try all of the other wires in an equal manner and write notes on how the wire makes a difference.

For SS, my notes say "harder than Kanthal". Just me, and I am not sure that I fully remember what I meant, but Kanthal was the victor in the comparison.

Set up two tanks with an equal resistance and give it a taste test..

this thread has made me wonder i always used ss in tc and set watts full ie 167 dna250 for pre heat for 0.4 seconds and temp is juice dependant any where from 330f to 470f max due to reports of famaldahide spelling lol^ forming above this temp ?
True or not i don't no

edit to add i used SMALL twisted, claptons, tiger even juggernut coils in dual from 0.10ohm upwards and the vape it great, smooth cloudy

what would be the best wire to use fo flavour instead of SS?
