So I have noticed, specifically the Marine Corps that you are not allowed to vape unless you're in a area where smoking is allowed. Which means no indoor vaping, what could possibly be the reason why smoking and vaping are considered the same?

Why?

Military Intelligence.

Only those who have been in the service can appreciate the full depth of that oxymoron, now hurry up and wait!

Maybe people do not like inhaling an addictive poison. Many vapors use nicotine in their juice and nicotine is known to be addictive and it is a poison.

and so is methane gas.... very poisonous... and hydrogen sulfide, another one that can kill you... dont stand behind any cows you will die

It depends on the CoC. I work for the Corps and nobody has an issue with me vaping in my office. I can see them saying no to doing it in the common areas but if you're in a secluded spot with no crowd then it shouldn't be a problem. I haven't heard about any outright bans here in Okinawa but some offices that have multiple people working in close quarters have said take it elsewhere.

Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard policies are all dependent on each Commanding Officer. The Air Force on the other hand changed their US Air Force Instruction (AFI) 40-102 "TOBACCO USE IN THE AIR FORCE" about two years including electronic cigarettes. It could remain this way for sometime unless some e-cig users force the hand of leaders to include electronic cigarettes. More than likely this will come from rebellious individuals who don't care and it won't take many of them.

On the other hand, there are many people in the military and military federal government civilians trying to keep an unofficial balanced and respectful use in place. I am a retired Navy Command Master Chief (top 1% of all Navy enlisted) that advocates for vaping when done in a manner respectful to others around them and maintain a proper decorum when in uniform. I still work on military bases and DO NOT want to see the policy change!

The simple answer is "Because someone higher ranking than you said so" The more complex answer is buried somewhere in your contract with the government and has something to do with following lawful orders and other such uncool in today's world of I want to know why soldiers.

I was in when you could smoke pretty much anywhere, lots of stuff has changed in the military. Not all of it for the better. A fair bit of those changes came about in part due to folks whining about this or that. Political correctness had its part too, Indian runs became last man up runs, cadence calling became highly edited, artistic vehicle insignia changed to suit the religious ideals of the country in which you were tasked with killing its soldiers.

I spent 20 years in the Navy, it's simple. Smoking and vaping is not uniform unless everyone is doing it. This is why there is an area for it. That's how the government thinks. Just be glad you are not infantry spending a couple of months in the field, it's hard to charge them egos plugged into a tree.

It all comes down to appearances. Try as hard as you might, vaping will never LOOK professional, and while you wear the uniform, you are expected to appear in the utmost professional manner at all times.

...and you are expected to look utmost professional while looking at whats left of your legs after you stepped on something that went boom. Or feel bad about the gutshot spoiling the color pattern of your combat wear and stoically accept the demerit points...

... a lot of them putting their *** on the line, doin a job that carries a whole lot of other health risks than second-hand vapor...

Cut them some slack, for chrissakes
