Are you for or against being able to vape indoors in public places?

Getting back to the Question, I don't see anything wrong with vaping in public as long as your not blowing clouds, that just invites an excuse to ban vaping in public areas, I mean, have some thought for the tootle puffers.

For me it depends on the size and type of business. Places like Walmart or big box chains I can't really say I'm against it. I think that being that dependent is a little odd, however. But in restaurants or small businesses where you are in one central place for a while, I'm against it. I used to go hang out with a couple people who vaped constantly inside in one room, after a couple hours I'd get headaches and start feeling unwell. The vapor can affect people, so honestly just be courteous of others.

I bring my vape (carry it proudly) everywhere I go. I don't always puff away on it, but I do always have it on me. So for me....it is not that I am dependent on it, but rather am proud of myself that I left behind a habit of 38 years and my vape is kind of like my badge of honor. How else will people learn the truth if we are shoved back into that corner of shame? How else will people be able to ask questions if I treat it like some big secret that I am ashamed of. The only time I actually shut it off is if I am around oxygen or other highly flammable tank, or politely asked to not show it by owner. I am not saying you are incorrect in your last statement, but I do question the validity of it. Many things including the company could be the cause of a headache/feeling unwell. Maybe one of the people had on too much cologne. Smells in general are huge headache triggers, but they are all around us even when vaping is not. IMO I just think it is unfair to automatically blame the vape.

And allergies?

I need to hear some evidence that the impossible has happened at least once...

That someone has definitely had an allergic reaction to second hand vape... and its medically confirmed.

Tapatyped

I have no medical confirmation of anything. But I can confirm some juices (namely Halo juices and I'm not bashing them at all as I like some of them a lot, namely the Torque, Malibu and the late Smooth 8) can easily make my wife cough her lungs out (even if I'm not vaping them anymore but have been before), not to mention her complaints regarding smells, but that belongs in a different league. To me, that's a nuisance but what can I do? Unfortunately that makes my vaping seem like some terrible addiction, "as much as gambling, for instance". She quit smoking cold turkey about 4 years ago, didn't like vaping when she tried it and it doesn't really matter how much info she gets.

It should be up to the owner of the establishment as to wether or not to allow vaping in their building. The government should have no business in this. Unless it's a government building of course.

I remember the days when owners could decide the race, gender, religion and various other aspects of their customers. Didn't work very nicely.

i think it's odd too, does anyone really need to vape in a supermarket, it's not like the cinema where you'll miss something if you pop outside for 5 minutes

I won't pretend to know what anybody else needs, much less tell them what they want.

I'm so sorry. I don't know how I would handle vaping if I thought my husband didn't support me because of his experience with it. I can understand the smell thing on some liquids but that is pretty easy to solve. I could be wrong but I think the cough thing may just be her way of saying "I disapprove with vaping". Again, I am sorry that you are not getting the support at home for doing something terrific for yourself just because you did not go the cold turkey route. :( At least you have us here at ECF. :w00t:

My husband has been a HUGE supporter and cheerleader of my vaping; he loves it! I don't stink like an ashtray, spend ungodly amounts of money on POISON, or have to interrupt everything with "let me go smoke, and then..." But, lately he's had this weird cough and throat thing going on; when he described it to me: "it feels like there's something in there that needs to come out, but I can't get it out," I heard a loud DING! because that's EXACTLY how it feels to me when I vape too much VG. And lately, I've been struggling with this hoarseness thing, that would temporarily clear up if I cleared my throat -- so I thought, maybe it's the VG? for both of us? So, even though I've been vaping 84/16, last week I made some mixes with 85/15.... and his cough is getting better -- and my hoarseness is getting better. :thumb:

So, while it's entirely possible that your wife's cough is merely psychosomatic... there actually *might* be something in those juices that is affecting her -- maybe she's allergic to something that Halo uses? For myself, vaping anything from Halo has always seemed to make me nauseous -- at first I thought it was because the nic was too high (it was when I first started), so I went to another brand in 6mg. Now I'm thinking, maybe there really IS something in Halo juice that some people react to badly.

If it is odd to you then you may be missing one simple thing, that we needn't hide in the shadows anymore. We are not hurting anybody! Somebody that is vaping to help with their anxiety issues may very well need that vape just to get through a store.

it would be a terrific idea to disallow perfume on waitstaff, and for the same reason -- not everyone agrees on what "smells good"

^^^This! Strong perfume smells leave me with a terrible migraine... I'd rather be around huge clouds, than perfume. As far as the original post, I CHOOSE to not vape indoors anywhere but my house, my car and my friends houses that are okay with it. I don't take mine in stores, etc. with me. Since the ban on smoking in public places took effect in IL, I've gotten used to not bringing cigarettes inside...I treat my vape the same way.

I'm used to the bans too -- but my vape goes everywhere I go. No way am I leaving it in the car for some thieving rascal to steal! And what if I need to "vinkle" while I'm in the store? ;) I don't vape in the *store*, but behind the bathroom stall, what I do is MY OWN business and nobody else's. And nobody but nobody is going to tell me what I can carry in my purse, when that item is a perfectly legal item!

I sometimes buy bits and pieces from a vape shop who run a stall in my local supermarket. Last week I noticed they had a subox mini and the guy asked if I wanted to try it. Well, of course I did, so he sets it up with the 0.5 coil  and I'm standing beside the bakery section blowing clouds and I have to say it did feel somewhat strange (although no-one else seemed to be taking any notice) ...... and yes, I did buy one

Never having built a coil before, he said if I go back with the RBA when I have some time to spare he'll teach me how to do it - I sincerely hope I don't have an audience for that :D

ROFL! That's exactly why I didn't want to learn to build coils up at SteamCigs' "clinics" -- I didn't want an audience of kibbitzers telling me everything I was doing wrong!

Once I actually just tried out wrapping a piece of wire around a drillbit, I figured out that it was actually pretty easy. :D

I've conducted my own very informal and completely unofficial research into the reactions of non-smokers (and ex-smokers) to "second-hand vapor", based on the traditional techniques used in engineering, to vary the parameters and observe and record the results, similar to scientific method ...

I vape menthol juices exclusively, and routinely stealth vape indoors ...

If someone does notice the faint lingering aroma, I tell them I just had a mint candy. Usually they ignore it then. Sometimes they ask if they can have one too ...

On a few occasions, as a test, I will show them my PV, and demonstrate it. That's typically when the fake coughing and frantic hand waving starts, along with the dire warnings about anti-freeze, exploding batteries, and inhaling electricity ...

This has happened at different times with the same persons. Its as predictable as Pavlov's dog slobbering when the bell rings ...

Its called "conditioned stimulus", and 50 years of conditioning is a powerful force ... :(

I'm very much an all fingers and thumbs type person so it could be hilarious - especially as I only speak pigeon French and he only speaks pigeon English LOL. I have asked my husband if he'll come with me as it's the sort of thing he'll be good at and he's something of a perfectionist, whereas I'm not !

Klutz is practically my middle name, and when I first started the coil-building thing, you could have written the Profane Dictionary with everything that was coming out of my mouth. :D Though it was actually the process of getting coils "mounted" in those tiny T3S heads that really brought on the cussing. :D I was terrified of pretty much everything about vaping, at first -- got a drop of 6mg juice on my hand, oh horrors! I'm washing it off frantically -- yesterday I got a few drops of 100mg on my fingers while mixing, no trauma, just rinse them off in cold water. And the coils, OMG, you'd think I was trying to build a nuclear reactor or something. :D I dunno if familiarity breeds contempt, but it certainly breeds calmness. :D
