It is indeed a 'membrane' switch, here is the original patent with drawings, by Ruyan and Hon Lik (the modern inventor)

Patent US20130139833 - Electronic cigarette - Google Patents

Thanks Orb! So, as you see from this excerpt: (208), under the action of suction pressure difference, distorts to drive the switch spring (212) and sensor (207), thus switching MOSFET electric circuit board - it's not sound but air. Air provides the pressure to switch the device on.

My device has a button, so it atomizes the juices when I push a button. You must have an auto-draw device. If I'm not mistaken it's actually the sound of you drawing air through the device that activates it. That would explain why an autodraw goes off constantly at a concert. I am also interested to know for sure how the auto draws work.
It's actually a vacuum switch like the ones in the fuel system in your car. The reason concerts or bumpy roads set it off is the vibration moves the diaphragm the same way suction would

Electricity flows to a coil/resistor(atomizer). That atomizer has a liquid saturated wick. The instant heat from the electrical flow heats up the liquid at an extremely fast rate. It doesn't have time to burn and goes into another form of thermal breakdown. This is what is referred to as ionization/vaping.

There are three types:

1. Membrane switch: As air gets pulled in through the side holes in the connector this creates a vacuum which pulls up on the membrane tripping the switch, common in 510s and 901s.

2. Flap switch: Air gets pulled through the switch itself it lifts a flap that makes the connection, common in epipes and ecigars.

3. Microphone or sound switch: As the sound of air being pulled through the device reaches a certain level the switch is tripped, common in 40x series. It is susceptible to outside sound such as loud music or driving at speed with the window down.

In my opinion they all suck, all are susceptible to leaks and just getting gunked up. I've tried all three over the years and there is a reason 99% have buttons, they work better.
