When ads were "standard" people just dealt with it (I still kind of miss some of my funny cable ads, but this has been replaced by no cable and network TV, we use this odd thing called an ANTENNA) and Tucson Network TV is just EPIC when it comes to ads. I think some of my favorites are the turn your gold into cash by Old Tom. He's terrifying...
With that said, we have Netflics and Hulu, and they don't have ads, but they are also premium services that we PAY for.
If you don't want ads, you'll need a certain amount of dough, and that has become the norm, and I'm actually not sure that in many cases it is worth it. I particularly detest "level" systems where you pay less for sitting
through ads vs. not having them.
With that said, everything has been monetized these days and if the ads bother you that much, you do have options, even though in an ideal, utopian society perhaps there would be no ads. They do serve a function and a purpose in our current society however.... The internet is NOT what it used to be (an esoteric, interesting place that was teeming with activity from the nerd base, but like, the idea of posting pictures, doing anything other than straight posting to a particular site and etc., back when Pirate Bay was actually legal, even....) Those days are long gone and they will not be coming back. Advertisers are going to find a way to ferret you out and annoy you.... Because advertising works, the internet becomes more expensive as it gets more complicated.... Just be glad freedom of speech is still somewhat tolerated, if you ask me.... Because the "utopian" interesting future that I can dream up in my head is a bit scary, frankly.
