why is stuff on the forum moved to obscurity.... sometimes, and other times not?

just asking here, but why are some posts moved to sometimes obscure sub categories, but other times the exact same type of posts are not. like I posted in "General" e-smoking discussion" where people with more experience have offered a lot of help, but then the posts get "moved" into sub categories where you get so much less response and help? Is it me? I'm sure there is some rule here that I missed when I titled the posts, but generally, the subs are so much less helpful, and the views are at best minimal/limited. So please don't take offense anyone, but it made me wonder enough to ask and be specific. And a big thank you for the help I get.

Couple examples. I posted these threads in "general", mainly because I thought is was general e smoking. yes it mentions specifics, but so do a great many such posts. I figured the more people that see it, the better my chance of getting help with it.

Here are a few titles that I posted that got moved: Vision Spinner 1300 - Auto shut off too soon?, Spinner 1300 lights/flashes/charging, difference between a rebuild-able Vision CE4 Version 2 and a version 3, where to find user manual -Vision Spinner 1300.

Here are a few I came across tonight that made me wonder: Looking for a 18650 mod, Plastic coating at base of battery on the e-power 14650s, ULTRAFIRE BRC 18650 3000 mAH ?, vision spinner help, Still having eGo-C Twist charger problems..., Ego C Twist with Tank help!!, 1.8 ohm Clearomizer on 650mah battery

I'm not complaining at all, just asking. Did I title mine wrong? vision spinner help and ego c twist w/tank help was ok, but I got too specific? I'm not seeing any difference. maybe it's just so subjective I don't get it?

Its an unforeseen reason;-) Still funny!
The Moderators may fore what ever reason feel the thread belongs in the sub category. I doubt they are picking on you specifically, but you never know maybe they just don't like you, and dont want you to get any questions answered. ( Thats sarcasm)
It may not seem like a good reason to move but that's just how it works. It is a little irritating sometimes but they do a good job of moderating so best to trust their judgment.
you can always ask who ever moved it Im sure they would be happy to tell why it got moved.

This thread should have been posted in the Site Feedback section. I'm sure someone will be along soon to move it.

;)

On a serious note, as a former moderator on a very large automotive site I understand both sides of the coin; members want help and post threads where the traffic is, and Mods have the responsibility of keeping the forum organized. The problem with such a large forum is that there can be multiple locations that might be a fitting home for the thread, and some if those locations don't get much traffic.

They have model specific section to keep things organized. It gives users of the same devices one place to go to look for info or answers. Are there more threads that have a more sutable home, sure. But it's a busy forum and they also have lives and jobs to worry about too. In a busy section like General E-Smoking Discussion they are probably doing thier best just to stay above water.

I posted in "General" e-smoking discussion" where people with more experience have offered a lot of help, but then the posts get "moved" into sub categories where you get so much less response and help?

I think there are 100,000 members on ECF, dunno how to look at the amt of posts per hour, or post per day.

"General" category is like a big inbox, on a desk that needs to be filed somewhere. IF there is a category where it fits in better.

So spinner was moved to APV topics.

Makes sense to me, I worked in a huge skyscraper sized law firm once in college, and there were hundreds of papers that needed to get to where they belong, and fast.....labelled and filed quickly, cuz there is so much stuff coming thru the pipe that it would get buried within a few hours............there has to be some organizational management applied.

Forums always look like huge filing cabinets to me, for that reason. :)

FWIW, if there is a subject i want to read about, I just use search, and it gets me specifically to where I need to go. :)

I'm sure the others you pointed out should / would have been moved too, but maybe the mods for that section were too busy that day or missed the topic altogether. Your thread just caught them on a day when they had time to do their job like they'd like to do.

Do they leave redirects in place when moving threads, so others will see the thread still in the initial location?

Actually with as many sub forums as ECF has I am not sure every thread in general couldn't be moved...sometimes a forum can get too big and too complicated. But with as many members posting as they do here without the subforums many questions would run off the first couple pages in a matter of hours. Moving threads is a necessary evil at times.

There is actually a forum rule regarding this-

Starting threads in the incorrect forum: Please would you spend some time before you start a thread considering the best place to post it? The forum is divided into many different sections for different topics, to keep it organised.

That pretty much says it all. With over 7 million posts, it's a way to keep the forum organized. Most members like it. A lot of forums have been created due to member input.

Why some threads get moved and other's don't? They weren't seen or weren't reported.

yeah, like I said, I'm sure there is a rule. Technically, if you tried hard enough, every single post on here probably fits into some other sub category, unless the post is so vague and ambiguous it is ineffective and pointless. I find it hysterical that the post asking why some are moved and why some aren't was itself moved. that is the very definition or irony. lol.

There are a bunch of reasons to do something, and also counter reasons not to do it. Same as everything round here...

General Discussion would soon become the dungeon of unfindable threads if everything stayed there. Stuff has to be moved out, you could look at GD as being the starting place of a thread's life before it goes on its travels :)

Only if it genuinely has no better home does it stay there. Or if the Mods have a busy day somewhere else and miss stuff. Yes, it's annoying if your thread goes somewhere that gets no fast response. But maybe that's better than a ton of answers that say stuff like, "Yeah I need to know that too, dude" or, "I heard you can put the top in a vice then pull the bottom off with a wrench - but I could be wrong, maybe that was the Dudcig JunkClearo".
