Why is such a high amp rating so desired?

Hello to all! I was just a little curious as to why a lot of vapers out there prefer such a high amperage rating on their device. What is so desireable about being able to push 20+ watts? I am still fairly new to vaping and still have a lot to learn, which is why I am asking this question. I have quickly gone up through a Blu starter pack to an Inferno kit and on to the Provari. I am loving the Provari by the way. But it "only" has a 3.5 amp limit which I guess allows it to push about 14.5 watts max. That limit seems to be plenty high for me at the moment. If I go any higher than about 5 volts on my Vivi Nova tank with a resistance of 2.8 ohms, the juices I use seem to taste a little burnt. So is it just the juices I am using? Is it that what tastes burnt to me doesn't to someone else or vise versa? I just wanted to get some other opinions out there. Thanks everyone. Happy vaping!

I think some people are just TH hunting happy. A bit crazy, imho. The average person finds their "sweet spot" between 6 and 9 watts as a a ball park general rule. I personally am happiest with my juice at around 6.5 to 8 watts. I have a friend who prefers 11 watts. That seems high to me...but he says that many here on ECF would consider that "lightweight". I am not a fan of vaping molten asphalt...so I don't like it that high. For me...and my type juice (DIY menthol..very icy and not sweet) going higher than 8 watts washes out the taste I worked so hard to "develop" and it just tastes scorched to me. Ah, well.

It's just a matter of personal taste. Don't let anyone try to intimidate you into vaping at a level that really isn't something you like. We are all different, after all!

Some people want to vape at more than 14 watts.

I think it is Crazy but hey, to Each their Own.

Yeah, I guess it all really just boils down to personal prefference. I was just curious if I am missing out on something great by not pursing a high wattage vape. I currently run 16mg ejuice in a 2.8 ohm Vivi Nova at 4.5 volts. I think the TH is too high, but my wife wont let me get more ejuice until I 'need' it. and with my current stock of juice, I dont 'need' it. I have some VG to dilute it down a little but I dont want to dilute the flavor. So I just have a big bottle of water handy at all times to sooth my throat after the TH.

I think that is about what it is.

Here is a guy who talked about vaping at 23 watts. Maybe he was just pulling my leg but here is what I think about vaping over 10 watts.

Just seems like Box Mods should be Compared with Box Mods. And Tube Mods should be Compared with Tube Mods. Kinda a Apples versus Oranges thing to me.

But what do I know? I think All Box Mods looks like your Vaping on a Garage Door Opener.

23 Watts. Holy Flinkering Snit !

When I vape Higher than 10 Watts my e-Liquids taste like this....

(Those are Burning Marshmallows BTW.)

Here is a chart that may help. I got it off of here. I use less than 10 watts and above 4 as another said it is juice makes a diff adn the atty differences make a diff. Personal experience is that if I go to high it burns the juice and shortens the life o the atty. Have to clean them too. They gunk up. Here is the chart.

I'll probably get chastised for this, but here goes. Most (not all, but most) of the posters who seem to harp about amp limits are guys, and I think for some (not all, but some, and perhaps many) of them it is just another form of d!ck measuring.

Just like there are guys on motorcycle forums who fret about the shortcomings of this or that motorcycle when the practical truth is that ALL of them are more capable than the guy riding it and ANY of them will flatten your eyeballs against the back of your skull.

My opinion is that the amp limit is one of the LEAST important aspects of any PV. I'm sitting here vaping a lowly VTube and a Vivi Nova tank with a 2.8ohm head, and I can crank it up way past the point of burning my juice. So the amp limit that some preach about is a non-factor for me and I couldn't care less.

It very much depends on the juice!

Tobacco flavors in particular often need higher wattage to bring out the flavors.
That same wattage can crush delicate fruit flavors though.

I like dark juices like coffees, tobaccos, and chocolates...
And I vape them at about 10 watts minimum.
:)

This is Very True.

With the current craze of rebuildables, a lot of folks are building ultra low ohm coils which seem to be able to handle > than 15 watts without tasting burnt.

The reason that e-Liquids taste Burnt is if Wicking can't keep up and the Coil Runs Dry. When this happens, the Temp of the Coil Skyrockets. It's like your doing a Dry Burn and Inhaling it.

But some Rebuildable don't use the Standard Coil / Wick setup. So if they can wick Faster than a Standard Atty or Carto, they can run at Higher Watts without Burning the e-Liquid.
