Why isnt 22g or "thicker wire" more suitable for cloud chasing?

I read somewhere on the forum that it had too much thermal mass or something and that 28g was better for clouds, but I would assume that with lesser resistance wire + more surface area covered, that it would produce more clouds correct?

If 28g really is better, can someone explain why? I would like to inquire more about this.

Thicker wire takes longer to heat up, and stays hot after you let off the button.

Its not better or worse. Use what works for you.

The advantage to thicker wire is that you can get more surface area per .1 ohm of resistance. More surface area = more vapor, to a point.

Ya whoever told you that is just wrong. If the resistance is lower, than that easily outdoes any slow ramp up time relative to a thinner gauge.

i know a guy running 20ga nichrome .but he has one of those Ares {?} 300 watt mods so wire size is not an issue ,,in other words thicker wire = more power needed to push it

I use 20AWG wire religiously. Whoever told you thicker wire isn't a viable option for cloud comps is an idiot. I'd return by saying "if thicker gauge wire isn't good for cloud comps, then why do a lot of people use it?" IMO even 24AWG wire is considered 'large gauge' for most. People don't understand that, yet everyone uses it...? Excessively LARGE wire (ie 16AWG and lower) might not be well suited for cloud competitions just because it's a pain in the ... to build with and it requires EXCRUTIATING amounts of power to fire it. However, 22 - 20AWG wire is AMAZING to use in cloud blowing. But as always, use what you want. Use what works for you and stick with it.

I dont care to use 20ga, 22 is almost to much of a pain to build for me, but i am also running batteries in series so it take a lot of wire to get the ohms up hig enough. My got for huge clouds is 24ga, wraps on 1/8". Comes out to .33ohm generally. Its plenty of power with 8.4 volts!

Yeah as I said, use what works for you. I just roll with what I know. And I love the heat of my 20AWG wire. It heats quickly, stays hot longer, and after that first pull it allows me to quickly pulse the button for that 2nd inhale and still get huge clouds.
