Why pay well over $100 for a mech when a clone of it is a fraction of the price?

Yes, I support the innovator, not the copier.
Without the innovator, these clones would not exist.
Without the innovators, vaping would not be where it is today.

so what do you do when the innovator is also the copier? this stuff pretty much all started in china where the clones are being made.someone, somewhere took what they were doing initially to the next level, and so on. to me its more a circle of life situation.

While I respect your stance, I don't agree with it. Millions of people have stopped smoking because of Joyetech. The company isn't an innovator at all. The designs for its products were created by Janty and Ovale. Speaking of Janty, RY4s have also been huge in helping people quit smoking. The company invented the RY4, but dozens of companies have sold more of its "copies."

As far as mechanical clones go, some people are unable or unwilling to spend $200 or more on a mod. If a cheap clone helps them stay off of cigarettes, that's a good thing.

i asked this question in another thread, but how much of a voltage drop under load can i expect with my clones? i saw in tests that even the top-shelf mods will register 3.9v or so under load even with a freshly charged battery. i would guess with a clone it'd be closer to 3.7v or less under load. i ask this because i am thinking a .4ohm coil would never draw a full 10A from the battery (panny cgr18650ch for example), it'd probably draw closer to 9A, right?

Mechanical devices don't have a "voltage drop" they have "resistance". It the resistance of the PV in series with the resistance of the coil that determines the voltage drop.

Assuming that you take 2 measurements... Both with the same PV and the same battery at the same voltage... The only difference is that the 1st measurement is with a 2.5 ohm coil and the 2nd is with a 0.5 ohm coil.

The 1st measurement will show that there is very little voltage drop and the 2nd will show a much larger voltage drop. In both cases, the resistance of the PV has remained constant but, in the case of the 0.5 ohm measurement, that resistance makes up a much larger percentage of the total resistance of the completed circuit. The "voltage drop" is going to be in direct proportion to that percentage.

So, saying that a particular PV has a voltage drop of "x" volts makes absolutely no sense without also stating the resistance of the coil being used in the test.

I suppose safety... I know who builds the mods I use... He cares a lot about safety - it took me 5 days to ship him my mod to have a bug fixed... 5 days to ship it and get it back... and it wasn't $200... it was a $55 vaprlife turbo... I have 4 of these... love them... reliable... great performer...

when his new variable volt/dna etc etc mod is released.. I'll pay the $100+++ or whatever he charges...

Thevyrus, just wanted to write ya and give you my own personal experience. I've been doing this a LONG time, vaping that is. I've used just about every type of mod out there. Think I still have a screw driver laying around here somewhere. Here is my and only my personal view. I think any long shiney tube or box hangin out of your face is kinda funny lookin to start with, whether its 1000$ or 10$. With that said, it stopped me from smoking and I'm great full. It seems like your thread got more into the " what should I buy" rather then "performance difference". For me when it comes to performance there's a lot of high price vs. clones that I can't tell a difference on. I'm sure if I busted out all my measuring equipment I'd be able to see a diff, but as far as vape I just can't tell. Take your vamo for instance. I have a provari and a vamo, I get the same great feeling out of both of them without getting into the high end vs. low. I also have an EA and a china gg.. Guess what? With my coils in the same atty... Nope both are awesome! Only thing I did was take 2 mins and sand off the plate on the china. So.. I can see and appreciate the collector aspect of this hobby of ours but I also think and thank the people who make everything available to the masses. I for one would be on stinkies again if all I could use was an ego. So I give props to the designers who put in the hard work making those fancy mods that I've always drooled over. There will always be a market, but I do like the "clones" also. I can drop um, scratch um, whack my kids with um, and keep my wife at bay with um and not have to worry to much. The high end stuff is for you and you alone I don't think I've ever had anyone say wow! That's an awesome vape machine you got there! But to me it's pretty!

Anyway, there may be a a small difference in performance but like I said, for me, I can't really tell. If I build a good coil it's all relative. There is something to say for customer service though. If your gonna spend 200$ if BETTER come with damn good service. If it cost 17$ who gives a sh!te? Once again that's just me. So good luck in your hunt. Take those mechs you got on order build some kick@ss coils and I bet you'll love um, if you do find a pretty high end one and go with it, or not. Spend your money how you like and do what makes you feel good. You will always be happy this way.
Cheers my friend!

That's because Hondas and Toyotas are neither Chinese nor clones

I totally understand the people who have 10 different clones and have spent over 200 bucks to do so, but one solidly built original has it's own charm and could last longer than all those clones, i guess. Im just having a hard time getting past the economical side of it, which is my main point.

the three mods i have coming in the mail have all gotten very very nice reviews (without much additional modding done to them) from what i've seen here on the forums and youtube: the k100, the new kts flattop, and the sentinel v3 clone (not as many reviews on this mod). I personally think it's awesome to have a variety of designs and modes at my disposal all for under 60 bucks.

the "feel" the "look" and this and that are nice, yes, but they do not dictate why i get a particular device. I did not get the vamo for it's sex appeal, it just damn well and i love it. cost me 27 bucks, and i dont think the provari is going to perform 6x better.

I feel that mods have ventured more into the realm of fashion...high-end designer mods, rare mods and the whole "mod envy" that people get oogling over others' setups. I mean, it is clearly no longer about what kept us from picking up analogs, it is no longer about just getting a good vape, it's no longer just about the juice and it's delivery...

and just on durability: i know a lot of hondas and toyotas that have gotten the same if not more miles on them than bmws, porsches etc.

It'll depend on the device, but I'd be very surprised if you were able to get as high as 3.5 volts delivered to a .4 ohm coil... If you were able to get that high, you'd be looking at 8.75 amps and 30.6 watts.
I don't think that's going put you in and danger physically but I doubt that a 18350 is going to be able to sustain that kind of output very long. If you're going that low I'd recommend sticking to the high discharge 18650's... The usual suspects... AW IMR 1600 mAh & MNKE or the newish Samsung INR 18650-20R & Sony US 18650-VTC3... Just my 2 cents.

This.

I have to shake my head whenever I see people referring to "VAPING 60 WATTS!" when their battery is probably struggling to put out 3.2, let alone 4.2.

Lol, i think thats the theoretical wattage if atty, coil and mod are built to absolute perfection. I think i will stick to my high drain panasonic cells snd keep my 18350s for my vamo.

Jeffsm, i think i will buckle down and get a nice mod after tinkering with these for the next few months. Like u said, performance is relative. For example, my did clone is hitting better than my agat2, which is better than my other did clone. Im gonna bang these mod clones up for sure and trying to get the best vape with them and my gennys. I will reward myself with a proper mod after new years, maybe the Nzonic... Who knows what killer mods will emerge from here and abroad, and if at all these mods with astronomical price tags will come back down to earth by then:laugh:

Is it really worth 5-10x the money (some cases even more) to get an original vs the clone? is the GG really 14x better than the kts ($246 vs $17)? is the empire mod really 5x better than the k-100 ($129 vs $23)? Is the sentinel v3 really 10x better than its clone ($180 vs $17)? i know the materials and look are better and a lot of people have plenty of money to burn, but how does it all affect the vape experience? Is there something i am not seeing? The only thing that would make sense is if the clones were known to breakdown sooner, but i find that hard to believe as they are all mechanical. Someone please enlighten me. I don't want to hear any talk about the morality issue of buying clones however, as it does not affect me presently.

funny, i made an enlightened argument to all of your questions, but i realized that since your morality has no room for "issues" why bother.
