I'we been vaping for around 4,5 months now. And every now and then some smoker came up, and start telling me how vaping is bad for my health, how I don't know what I'm inhaling, why I'm doing this to my self .... blah, blah ...
And when I ask them did they read recently any medical, scientific paper, or research about eliquids and vaping, the answer is NO, but they still holding their opinion that I can't know what are the substances in eliquid (No matter if I tell them that the composition clearly indicated on the packaging).
And on my question if they know what is in tobacco cigarette they smoke, the answer is that whatever it is, it can't be as carcinogenic, as my vape.

The conversation is most often finished when I say: What's the worst thing that can happen to me? I can get cancer, and to you?

How do you handle such smartasses?

btw. sorry on my bad English ;-)

Tell them about the 4 main components in the ecig (PG, VG, nicotine, and flavoring). Then ask them if they can recite to you any of the 2000+ chemicals that are in cigarettes.

When they can't, smile, take a nice big hit off your ecig, and walk away.

Personally, I don't deal with the smartasses, as I can vape everywhere that they can't smoke. When they have to put on their coats this time of year, and freeze outside, and come in smelling like smoke, I am happily vaping in my office. Another smile for them as they walk on by.

I've only had this happen a few times. Now, I don't usually throw around the fact that I have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, but when someone comes around spouting of nonsense like that I feel that a little tackiness from me in that area is justified. If they will stand still for it I give them an earful of scientific data. I don't know whether it changes any of their opinions, but I'm pretty sure they don't walk away feeling that they've won the argument with me. Lol.

I've actually never gotten anything but curious reactions from smokers, most of the negative comments come from non-smokers, and it's almost always the standard "I heard those things were worse than cigarettes".

If they're willing to listen, I'll try to explain how they are NOT worse than cigarettes using the information I've gathered thanks to this forum and the CASAA website:

CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association

They're either willing to listen to reason, or they're not.

I had this kind of conversation the other week, but with a non-smoker.

My answer:

What's in my e-cig is what you eat and drink!

Vegetable Glycerin that is used in Cake and Cupcake Icing, various baked goods as well as other food products

Food Flavoring that is used in Cake and Cupcake Icing, various baked goods as well as others foods such as candy

Propylene Glycol is the liquid most food flavorings are mixed with and is found in products such as Mio Water Enhancer

Try that!

PS: Your English is fine and probably better than many who's mother
tongue is English.

Wish I had Ph.D. in such cases, but I have read a lot (really a lot ;-) ) and I have many arguments, but I can see by the look on them that my words just deflects from their face (and ears).

There is no reasoning with some people. Not much you can do but smile and walk away. Perhaps one day they will see the truth.

This could become my approach.

But somehow I fill sorry for them ;-)

The only thing you can do is present them with the information. What they do with that information is their choice.

It's like the old saying, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink".

Or perhaps "Tko si ne da dokazati, ne može mu se pomoći."

I don't feel the need to explain it to anyone really. almost everyone I have told that it is "just vapor" gets it and stops asking. I guess if someone came up to me smoking a cancer stick and wanted to preach to me about how e-cigarettes are bad for you I would probably just laugh and walk away. Because that's pretty ignorant IMHO. You're probably not going to change their mind regardless. From my experience, people are always going to look negatively at things they simply do not understand. I think the reason for this is the media. Mainly news stations. Filling people with fear is there favorite past time. If I were you I would stop caring about what other people think. In the end it's your health and it's your body. Good luck!

Yeah, I've gotten that too, and always from those who come at me with "That thing still has NICOTINE IN IT!!!" They throw this at me while puffing away on their cancer sticks and scowling at me. All I can conclude is that what I'm doing somehow threatens them, and they have to attack me for it.

I like to tell them my juice is zero nicotine, and ask them if they know what chemicals are in their death sticks. Sometimes I make the point that it's not the nicotine that gives you cancer, but most of them don't want to hear that and just shout me down. Well, I have no time for such people, so I just leave.
