I'm starting to see a bit of tolling here! Stuck on incompatibility way too much. If you know what you buy (and how the heck could you not) you buy what is compatible with that connection! If your not sure, contact vendor. If someone makes a spur of the moment purchase and it doesn't work out, fault is yours. Pretty easy, not rocket science. And, btw, other tech gadgets (tv's etc) aren't easy to everyone, have you looked at the back of a high end model recently? My mother had a hard time with vcr's because...wait for it....because she said she couldn't be bothered.

I never figured out how to work those darn VCRs... never.

I'm still afraid of the DVD player because I have flashbacks from the days of VCRs.

As to vaping... it's only as involved as you make it. I think it's different things to different people. At first it was a way to quit smoking, and it worked for me. Then I was on a mission to save money... that's where the frustration set in because I couldn't keep it simple and kept shopping for things I didn't need. Now that I've declared this a hobby I'm in a happy place both mentally and physically.

Vaping and this forum have more than likely saved my life. That is worth any amount of money or frustration.

I'll make a long story short... I've worked in internet tech support from the days when people had to install their modems in their computers to the days where a friendly technician comes out and the user doesn't have to know anything. My conclusion?

Twenty years from now, when the two e-cigs are the Apple iVape and the Google Gvaper, there will still be people saying:

"I'm too old to learn this..."
"This is hard... somebody needs to make it simple."
"I tried this for an entire minute and I can already tell this thing ain't going to work for me."
"Hi. Is iVape Network down? I dropped mine in the river yesterday for a few hours but I dried it off with a towel and it still doesn't work. Are there problems in this area?"

You get the drift...

I've let my brother do all the research and now I'm taking his lead. He has been an avid smoker for about 50 years and smoked 3-4 packs a day compared to my 3-4 packs a week. He has been doing this for about 3 weeks and is so excited about it that he's shared all the information with me. We are both Chantix flunkies. My only fear is that I will sit at my computer and "vape" and never get anything done!!! Smoking regular cigarettes, I would go outside, so my temptation/cravings were highly tested in the freezing weather and high temps causing me to go outside and smoke less. Though when I was outside I puffed like a chimney! At any rate I'm anxious to get started, hopefully my kit will arrive and I await for more news from my brother. He wants me to call when I get the kit so he can help me get it going quickly! He told me, what works for me may not work for you. Well, sure it will, I don't know any difference and I will continue at this point to rely on what he does!! My husband is in agreement with me, if it's working for him then it should work for me, after all we're from the same blood!

How many people do you know who's DVD player clock is flashing because they don't know how to set it, or don't care enough to pull out the instruction book?

I bet they still use the DVD player.

If people want to use a technology, they will.

In the meantime, e-cigs are still new...things will standardize, probably not optimally, and all of us will look at the wealth of choices we have now and think of it as the "golden age" of vaping.

My sister in-law has the solution to this. It's the same solution half my family has to their computer problems. I'm a computer professional. That's means I provide computer technical support for everyone I know. My sister in-law actually turned me on to vaping. Now I pick what she uses and I provide vaping suppoort for her. I've ordered nicotine and flavors. You think I'm not going to be mixing her juices? Maybe I should start a vaping support business.

I am a 20+ year on the floor machinist/tool and die maker. So of course that makes me smarter than an engineer.

Very true!

At one shop, the company bought a Tornus (single-spindle, sliding headstock, cam-operated ASM accurate to +0.0001, -0.0000). Since everything else on the floor was SAE, they decided to supply a set of metric tools for that machine rather than making everyone who might work on it have to buy their own. Since I had experience with Swiss ASMs, it fell to me to sit down with an engineer while he compiled a list. After rattling off a bunch of miscellaneous tools, I said we'd also need some metric vise grips. The engineer looked through his catalogs, couldn't find one listed, and made a note to find a European supplier.

Two engineers were trying to put a new job on an Acme multi-spindle just to prove their layouts always worked perfectly and the machine could be turned around in much less time than we usually took. One dropped a brass hammer into the oil sump, and neither of them wanted to reach in and get it because the oil was so dirty. I lent them my magnetic pick-up. Almost an hour later they were still stabbing around and getting more and more frustrated that they couldn't get a good enough contact so the brass would stick to the magnet.

I came into engineering honestly. I worked in a machine shop evenings and weekends to get me through college.

remember that vaping will be cheaper comparatively even when factoring in some hardware replacements. My average cost went from 160$ per month to 40$ per month average. That DOES include hardware (I did not include the disposables that I gave away when I first started to see if it would work for me).

There are alot of "Mods", but several models seem to be carried by almost all the vape shops...the 808's, the joye 510 and the 4071 (NJoy/Smoking everywhere). I have even seen all 3 in mall kiosks. for me, the 510 seemed the most reliable, and it was what everyone seemed to compare their mod to. alot of the mods also use the atomizer and cart's, so it seemed most likely to hang around. There are also a ton of compatible knockoffs (some good, some bad) and usually that implies that someone will still make it as long as there is a buck to be made from it.

Good luck!

I can understand what you're friend is saying. In my journey thus far I have also felt like, geez this is alot of money and I keep spending more money. I thought this was supposed to be easy and less expensive, BUT I realized after just 3 days of vaping my taste came back, after the first week I could be active without losing my breathe and feeling I was going pass-out, I noticed that after I vaped I didn't feel my energy shift like I did after I smoked a analog cig, my appetite actually has decreased because I get to vape some pretty sweet liquids that I can make on my own-(I decide how sweet or strong not someone else), and the list is growing.

I started smoking at about the age of 12 and heavy at 13. At the age of 16 I smoked ALOT and got bronchitis like a champ that year, then pneumonia, and was left with scar tissue on my lungs, since then I've needed to depend on an inhaler. You'd think I would have quit then but I didn't. I did quit for 5yrs of the 19 yrs total , but always missed the action of smoking, seeing the smoke, holding it in my hand, all the phallic sensations I missed, and started up again. I tried to quit twice after starting up again and turned into a raging hulk like creature LOL (which is totally out of my nature) and felt literally crazy from withdrawals, so of course I continued smoking. Then my dream came true...e cigs! I did tons of research, spent a alot of money( at one time), and still am learning, but for me its ALL worth it. I'm going to live longer, I don't use my inhaler, I can play with my animals without having my chest tighten, I don't stink, my breathe doesn't smell....I mean it has greatly improved the quality of my life. I am also cutting down on the nicotine as I go ( again I decide when and how much), so if there ever is banned or became too expensive (which I don't think it will) I can have a choice to continue or not. Unlike e-cigs with analogs the cost goes up I'm addicted I continue, they make all the decisions, and I like a sucker I continue because i'm addicted. They add more chemicals and as a result I get increasingly more sick, I continue because I'm addicted, but not anymore. Now, I'm given the choices, to do or not do, and now I can live and enjoy my new found freedom...
Vaping, is so far the best decision I could have made!

There is no way, imo, that eventually this industry will fold to the easily comfortable or lazy. People like a wide variety of choices. There will always be the simple units for people who want that, but I highly doubt that accounts for the majority.

Mods will not only be for the "hotrodders". That's just silly! I'm a 40yo nurse and mother of three and I vape on a Darwin with a map tank and soon a vapemate. Why? Because I researched something I considered putting into my body very well and found what works for me by reading reviews and learning about each product carefully as all consumers should!

If your view were correct, there would only be one type of tv, one style of clothes, one type of food and only one cell phone carried by one carrier...has our society ever existed this way??

*Droid

Actually you missed my point completely, the "hotrodders" are pretty much the people who are interested enough in doing the research and finding a solution which they feel is better than average, Most people don't do that, they are actually happy with something that is good enough. you are a hotrodder whether you accept it or not. You got into a technology which is in its infancy, and are willing to pay for the best, as attested by the fact that you purchased the Darwin which is the equivalent of purchasing a sports car, whereas the average person drives a boring 4 door sedan, I for example will never buy a darwin, I am happy with what I have, even though it is pretty much the simplest solution on the market. the average smoker will probably not be a hotrodder, they will be the ones who want something simple, to replace what is simple. I'm not saying that the more elaborate or better solutions will disappear, I'm just saying they will likely not appeal to the masses, that when the market grows it will probably grow through those simpler routes, and some of those people will become "Hotrodders" and most will not. In no way does that mean that there wont be variety in the marketplace, just that the companies who focus on the KISS concept will probably get the lions share of the casual vapers. just like subcompacts and 4 Door sedans get the lions share of the car market.

I sympathize with anyone that's bought a bunch of proprietary parts and batteries and then gets upset because they don't make them anymore. That's why I'm against products like the go go or the weird off-brand e-cigs that they sell at tobacco shops.

That being said, I think that as long as e-cigs are around, they WILL MAKE 808 connections, 510 threading, and probably even 901 threading. The 510 manual was one of the first mini e-cigs out there and it's still, one of, if not THE most popular mini on the market. I have a 900mah ego and a 650mah ego PT and I'm STILL going to get a 510 auto kit and pcc for those times when I want to be a little more inconspicuous.

Yeah, there's a whole lot of proprietary stuff out there, but the vast majority of the vaping products are not going to go out of style any time soon.

Actually, you missed the point. I spent more money for the SIMPLICITY. I, like most, like to keep it on the easy fool proof side.

Problem here is your misconception of a mod. My Darwin, for example, is by far more simple than a mini 510. Why? I do not have to be constantly charging batteries, I can use any 510 atty/carto without worrying about ohms, I can use any other size with an adapter as anyone else can.

There are mods out there designed for the hobbyists, ex. Ggts. So, no, I am not a 'hotrodder', I paid more for simplicity and dependability just as some people do with any product. You are just trying to defend your point I do not agree with. I believe in personal accountability whereas you want to see an industry in its infancy be culpable for your inability to simply pick one and go without thought or research. You'd rather blame someone else for not making it simple enough. And I simply pointed out that no industry strictly caters to the lazy and uninformed.there are plenty of products in this and any other market that designs products made for that type of person and designs for the people who are willing to put more into it.

Im not blaming anyone, I think you are mixing me up with the OPs friend, my comment was about what was likely to be the best route for a business wanting to grow the market to people who don't want to experiment, a lot of whom probably would end up using prefilled cartomizers because its the easiest. I'm not in any way discounting the wide array of products, I think there is room in the marketplace for all of them.

Metal body with rechargeable/removable batteries and connectors , clearomazers/tanks made with thermo/shockproof glass and high quality heating element. That's it. No bad burned metal and melted plastic taste any more. No broken unibody batteries.
Total cost is the same to produce pen style flashlight and high quality mini-bulbs.

I apologize in advance for this, OK?

I laughed till my ribs hurt at the OP's post.

I'm sure he expected it to have that effect so please don't complain... New vapers need a mentor. Maybe we should have a mentoring program. Seriously.

+1 on this super idea. I would volunteer to pass on my experiences from the last 8 months, many new vaaper are overwhemed with a mix of information and opinion. A simple straight forward answer to a simple question would go a long way in helping a newbie.
