If it shorts out to the wick hole in the tank cap you are getting conductivity from your coil to your wick. Might try reoxidizing your wick.
The problem w/ some Genisis atty's is the top cap chamber is too big. You may not get the warm vapor you crave but you can try other kanthal gauges, braided coils, etc. That's the reason I sold my ZAP; the top cap was too roomy, and no coil or voltage setting could match my (small chambered) orion. I'll have my NGP soon as it landed Saturday, but may sell it for the same reason. We'll see.
Any suggestions on a rebuildable atomizer that will give the warmer vapor? After watching several videos I see the ZAP isn't something I want to look into anymore. I was looking at the Cobra which looks promising and had a great video review, the video review also showed it had a tighter draw which I like.

This is a ton of good info here for all thanks much gotta keep the studying up.
Setup:
DiD on Zmax
Folded and rolled SS mesh oxidized and quenched 3-5x, oxidized and not quenched,
Wick lightly coated with cotton fibers from USP grade cotton after oxidizing
Resistance wire provided with DiD
After going through three brand new wicks, sometimes oxidizing one wick multiple times with a torch I decided that oxidation probably wasn't my issue. I was having ohms go from as high as 4.0 on an initial reading with no shorts to .2 at the lowest possible voltage and wattage settings once power was applied, and the resistance wire would vaporize at the point between the positive post and the wick after a moment every time. I had thought that since I'd oxidized the wick that it could rest at the bottom of the tank, but as far as I can tell that was the problem. I pulled the wick up, wrapped a 2.5 ohm coil, and it works.
Definitely do not let your wick touch the bottom or sides of a metal tank![]()
when the wire is cutting or kinking (strangling) the mesh - this is definitely too close.
You probably can't get it too tight with your fingers. This lab test, the wire was tightened with a needle nose until it was cutting into the mesh and had no effect. More mythbusters. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/330407-500-ss-mesh.html
