Looks very much like mine but I have the silica inside the cotton at the coil just at the coil,, wrapped the cotton around the silica only at the coil, either way it works very well. I like how the silica wicks the silica/Cotton coil. I'll try your way next BJ and use all cotton to see if its better.

I'm going to have to try the cotton wicks on my home made 357 style Attys and see how that works next,,,,

Nothing going thru or around just laying on top of the coil.
You can see the original wick under the cotton wick.

Nice! How to easily make a stock short wick Vivi into a long wick with the bonus of having a cotton wick. :toast:

LOL...you know, I was thinking that the other night...he pops in, starts a thread that for me at least simply reinvents vaping and poof...I guess he feels (and rightly so) "hey, my work is done here...let them sort out the rest" :D

I finally got around to trying the Aunt Lydia's Bamboo Crochet Thread that I bought at Micheal's ages ago when I got the cotton yarn. I got the size 10, natural color.

I was too impatient/lazy to bother boiling it, and I would guess that there is no dying or bleaching done on the natural colored lots, so I just did a burn test. Nice orange flame, light dry wood smoke smell, little ash, and no indication of any synthetic fibers.

This stuff is pretty thin, so I did 5 parallel strands, and still ended up with a small coil. I'll try 7 next time. I think about 7 close turns gave me 2.7 ohms. A bit wider and higher resistance than I normally do, but I was in a hurry. I made the wicks short, just touching the side of the tank tube.

I've used it for two days now, and I like it at 4.2 - 4.4v. No off-taste at all, like the cotton yarn had after a boiling, just a slight 'woody' taste that I expected, and enjoyed. That mostly faded after a couple of ml went through it. I've gotten no flooding, as the cotton ball bit wicks often do to me, and nothing like a dry hit in sight. It wicks quite well, and the flavor of my Caramel Cappuccino juice seems to come through better with this than the cotton. Usually takes about 2 puffs to produce well after sitting for more than an hour.

I'm switching to this stuff for awhile to experiment with it. With 300 yards per ball, it should last a very long time. :)

You're probably okay on the bleach. However, the reason to boil is to get any sizing out. I'm pretty sure most yarn and thread has sizing. I did boil about 60 feet of the cotton yarn I bought. There was some water in the sink when I poured the water out of the pan. The sizing was clearly visible on the surface of the water. I don't really know whether there's any harm in vaping it sizing and all. Some have said it influences the taste but, it's not really bad.

One tip when boiling your cotton/bamboo yarn and stuff. Don't take the yarn out of the pan as the residue will stick to it as your pulling it out. Like taking a bath and when you stand up all the ? will stick to your body.
Hold the pan under slow running water until it overflows and all the residue will wash overboard. Then you can drain it.
