I finally got around to trying the
Aunt Lydia's Bamboo Crochet Thread that I bought at Micheal's ages ago when I got the cotton yarn. I got the size 10, natural color.
I was too impatient/lazy to bother boiling it, and I would guess that there is no dying or bleaching done on the natural colored lots, so I just did a burn test. Nice orange flame, light dry wood smoke smell, little ash, and no indication of any synthetic fibers.
This stuff is pretty thin, so I did 5 parallel strands, and still ended up with a small coil. I'll try 7 next time. I think about 7 close turns gave me 2.7 ohms. A bit wider and higher resistance than I normally do, but I was in a hurry. I made the wicks short, just touching the side of the tank tube.
I've used it for two days now, and I like it at 4.2 - 4.4v. No off-taste at all, like the cotton yarn had after a boiling, just a slight 'woody' taste that I expected, and enjoyed. That mostly faded after a couple of ml went through it. I've gotten no flooding, as the cotton ball bit wicks often do to me, and nothing like a dry hit in sight. It wicks quite well, and the flavor of my Caramel Cappuccino juice seems to come through better with this than the cotton. Usually takes about 2 puffs to produce well after sitting for more than an hour.
I'm switching to this stuff for awhile to experiment with it. With 300 yards per ball, it should last a very long time.
