My ONLY concern with mesh is, carbonized crap being aerosoled into my lungs on a chronic basis leading to a increased risk of cancer. Purely a hypothetical ...., but it does bother me (the idea I mean).

Really, given what the coils look like after a couple days with cotton, I would think this is happening no matter what wick you use.

Agreed, but the thing is, and this is just a theory...it's all about the micro explosions (popping and banging)...don't know about everyone else but Cyrus and I vape at some pretty high wattage and those "pops" can be pretty intense sometimes...cotton is a pretty resilient fiber and can take some abuse...I used to think about what was happening to my torched ceramic in my Ody every time I heard/felt that...where are those microscopic ceramic shards going??? (don't even want to think about silica)...I think about the same thing using straight mesh, not a whole lot of give there...thing with cotton (and this is purely what I want to believe )...sure the cotton gunks up but it doesn't fragment/shrapnelize (word?) because of it's give...

I thought the candle wick in it's braided state muted the flavor a little. Prolly due to it's tightness and not wicking as much joose.
It unbraids real easy with a needle into 3 little wicks. Kinda like a girls braids.
Imo it's not any different than gauze or cheese cloth except once you do a thread count It stays consistent. Makes it easier to count after you had a few.;)

Edit. My E-2's never pop. Only my rba's I think the ceramic cup has something to do with it.

LMAO HAHAHAHAHA

BJ I dunno how you do it down there, when I lived in a Dominican neighborhood for a few years I was in love every 5 minutes, it became painful after a while. Seems they had something against wearing clothes in those parts lol

My parents moved here in 1944 from upstate NY when I was 2 years old so I know nothing else. An 80 year old Dutch client of mine put it best after coming to visit for many years " Dominican women know why God put them on this earth".

See, now that's why I pick moments of clarity to make my wicking mats (and make major life decisions like whether or not I put a pillow over my wife's face while she sleeps)...makes things way easier...

Hmmm, I find that at 4V + on a 1.5 coil...everything pops...the cup just makes it a shape charge :D

I see what you're saying, but most people soak their mesh in juice and light it on fire three times, insert and vape. Then they go and go and go on it.

Not sure coil gunk would on a cotton wick would anywhere near approximate mesh gunk bathing in a vat of juice + coil gunk, but again, just a nervous guess, and I torch the living death out of it regularly anyway. In fact after I light it on fire three times I torch it again to hopefully get rid of any crapola. Probably should stop lighting it on fire period.

Call me crazy, but I would think that torching over and over would serve to weaken the mesh, versus while we vape, the steel is staying moist, and not being heated to the point of weakness.

but say it does weaken the mesh, so what? you use it for a while and throw it out :)

the idea of running a SS wick covered in carbon goop for prolonged periods of time just reminds me of...well, inhaling burnt stuff :)

hopefully its total bs, as I love my SS mesh

Oh LOL Now I get what you are saying... I do agree with burning off the nasty guck. Luckily all my liquids are clear or pretty much clear so they don't really gunk up very often.

Actually I just got something I can use mesh in. It's a genesis-ized Smoketech rebuildable. My juice tends to gunk up the coil pretty quickly. The best way I've found to clean it is to burn it off with a lighter. It's either that or replace the coil every couple days.

i was reading this thread from the beginning and this was mention. I read to page 27 if someone have tried it and gave up. So has anyone tried this?

Hmmm, I missed that...that stuff may be one serious long lasting wick (if it wicked, but it probably would)...problem lies in the fact it would be a serious PITA to oxidize...

there it is! I was asking about this a few weeks ago with no success.. I may try it for the hell of it not that expensive

EDIT: Although if the silica is being inhaled wonder if this would be to lol I sure as hell would rather want silica in me lungs than a metal toupe' lol
