I am in subject since 2008 and IMO there is nothing out there better than SS in all the main parameters, TH, vaper production, flavor, and health. Never had any of the problems you state. The kanthal is metal and until it gets a little buildup gives off some metal taste no mater what wick you use.

I have noticed the metal taste (sometimes for a day or two) until it gets buildup. I've seen a couple video's offering suggestions to fix this right away, they all involve putting something (a piece of a rolling papper or very small thin piece of cheesecloth for example) around the wick before you wrap the coil then burning it off by igniting the coil. I havent tried this yet has anyone else?

I read all the reminiscences about the strong smokes of our youth ... anyone remember these little jewels?

View attachment 157731

I used to keep a pack of these in my desk just for the moochers who came around bumming smokes ... strangely enough, after the first one they never came back. I'm not sure, but I think they were made from stable sweepings ... they describe them as "mild", but "mold" is more accurate!

HAHAHA I used to love it when people wanted to "bum a stoge" off of me, I'd hand them a straight camel and watch them hack their brains out LOL

Hey guys... quick boiling question... do you cut your cotton yarn up in to more manageable pieces... say 6 inches or so, or maybe just one long strand? or how do you guys go about it?

And what is the best way you've found to fry it after a good boiling?

I cut it up into smaller manageable pieces.

I've heard this was a great idea also but it didn't do anything for me. I still got hot spots and the taste didn't improve after ridding the hotspots.

Hello everyone,
Finally, 4 days, 2 stronger eyeglass prescriptions, and a lot of new choices later, I have finally reached the end (for now) of this very informative, insightful, funny, and oft times confusing thread  . Unfortunately I don't have a lot of $$ (actually none) to spend on different materials, and fancy rba's to try, so I used what I have around the house.....Balls of (got lucky) sugar n cream yarn......4 rolls of it, and 4 packages of gauze. I used the last of my vape money to buy a Bully Style DIY Atomizer

Bully style DIY atomizer

It has an eGo-C type tank setup, but I have been leaving the spike out and using it for dripping for now, all this testing it's easier that way. :) . I really like the sugar n cream the best out of all of my 2 choices, a lot easier to use than the gauze, although other than that the gauze worked fantastic also.

I also picked up a mop head from heather's a while back, but they were popping coils in a day or two, and at $3 a head, I put them down after the first 2 went. After reading a few pages here, and having success with the Bully, I decided to try my hand at rebuilding one of them, and it was quite simple. Seems that the coil was shorting out on one side of the part where the wick goes out the side of the tube. I'm on my third tankful using the sugar n cream...so easy to replace and 1 strand fits perfect, no dry hits or flooding.

My Dad, who I got into vaping less than a year ago, but who, after smoking Pall Mall non filters for 60 yrs, is happily vaping away NO NIC now, but goes through cartos right and left, is loving his Bully, and I just rebuild it every other day or so. And the yarn is a perfect fit for the spike to go to the eGo Tank.

I would like to thank all of you for taking the time and effort to bring all this information to those of us who appreciate a better way of vaping, especially in such an entertaining way . Maybe some day I will be able to get one of those fancy bottom feeders like you all have, but for now I'll stick with my Vega vs. your Ferrari's.

Thanks Guys (and Gals)

Hell... someone should send him a rba just for reading over 3900 post. LOL

Thinking the same thing :D

And as far as driving the so called "Super Cars" of vaping...I just sold off over $1000 worth of gear in the last month...my pragmatism finally defeated my obsessionism when I came to the conclusion that an ERA screwed to a used $90 Bogger kicks the sh-- out of all my GG/ZEN/PAPS gear in almost every facet (except maybe prestige )...my only regret is that I didn't discover A7's until I had all my ERA's...

Ah well, actually "knowing" that more expensive doesn't necessarily mean better is cold comfort, but a comfort just the same (or so I tell myself)

Well, I won't argue

My main PV is awesome, even if my RBA's are so-so. A friend of mine, Gergoz, builds awesome mods, and built me one for my B-Day this past May. It uses AA NimH batteries, 6 slot holder, 5 for batteries and one has the switch, works like a manual VV, use 3, 4 or 5 batteries, replacing with a dummy battery to get the voltage I want. Mine was actually the second mod he had ever made. Now that I've learned to coil and wick, I can actually get the hits and flavors that my Gervmod can put out. Never was this good with cartos and tanks. And the cotton yarn, thanks you all, makes it happen.

Not a very good pic, but my model is the one on the left. 3 more batts on the other side. Tank/carto/atty fits where the white spot is...mine is a bit different, is open in that area to accommodate the e-Go C setup.

Sorry to get sidetracked. After the Holidays I hope to get a hold of some of that BB and try it.

Similar to the puck mod, but uses a different battery holder, and has the e-Go type connector, threads inside and out. Is only 3 x 1 in. by 2 1/4 tall, without tank. I have gone through the Puck thread, was wondering if it was something I might be able to do, but I love my Gervmod too much to set it down, have 2 e-Go passthru's that are collecting dust now :)

Gotta love the Puck mods!

(as my sig says "Puck's got my back" :D)

[I think some vendor was/is selling an Altoids mod that uses NiMH]

Gotta love those NiMH batteries, easy charge, last all day, and can get them cheap with charger almost anywhere.

Last week I read the 500 SS Mesh thread, but decided that it wouldn't work too well in my Bully, that's when I found this thread. Glad I did. At least that one was only about half the size of this one LOL

Yuck! And it started off so well. The bunny ball on top of a Vivi Nova worked well, so I thought I'd try a bunny tail on my Genny. I wrapped a strand of Aunt Lydia's #10 knitting bamboo thread between the coils of Kanthal wire on the wick. The 1st tank was great, it did help to increase the amount of vapor. But into the second tank vapor started dropping off significantly. 1/2 way into the tank I thought the battery went dead, very little vapor. Took top off and low and behold, gunked to the extreme.

This is a pic of the bamboo thread as I was unwinding it from the coil.
