I'm not that sold on oxidizing SS, I'm not saying kanthal's better but SS does have tiny amounts of chromium oxide, that and once you oxidize it, it can rust (because its no longer stainless), and for who doesnt have a blow torch but just a stove, making new syringe coils can be a chore.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, don't know much about this stuff now that I think about it.

Definitely paranoid :) it doesn't rust at all (classic red ferrum rust). Oxide is the rust itself. Black rust, nonconductive.

My method works with stove too. to make cche you just need a clean fire source.

Does anybody feel the nicotine delivery is any different? More, less, the same?

I think vapor is vapor (minus the contaminate coming off the other wicking material we've been using). I gave my self a nice case of the hic-ups last night as I basically vaped a days worth of juice in about 4 hrs trying to break this cotton wick but now that I'm back to normal today I vaped my normal amount of juice and the nic delivery feels about the same as silica or ceramic but the taste is considerably better. Also, another note...the cotton seems a lot more stable than ceramic...If I would have installed a new ceramic wick yesterday afternoon the "super tasty new wick rush" would have already been tapering off (I typically put a new wick/coil in my Ody every 3 days)...I've vaped about 10ml on the cotton and it tastes like I just installed it...if this is typical of cotton I'm sold.

Another thing I'm doing tonight...and if you own an Ody you already know this...in long mode (7ml tank) you can only really vape about 3.5ml of it befor the Ody starts to get floody (no one knows why)...I want to see how the cotton fairs.

It's more like analog cigarette. Noticebly more. But less then analog.
But I made sandwich type system not long ago with very strong delivery. it was made from gauze.
First made a wick, then round it with fist inner coil, leaving coil tales about 2 cm, then round a gauze as is, preserving it's net structure, over this assembly, then round the outer coil over , then twist both coils' ends together - doublecoiled sandwich ready. Overdose waits you. :) liquid boiling conditions of this system are very good. Inner coil boils out nic, outer-vlavourings.

No 'gunk' build-up on the nichrome/kanthal. Just on the SS needle, should be very easy to clean with no disturbing of the actual coils. Looks like it makes for a very durable coil.

I believe there has been talk (maybe an actual atty available :?: ) of embedding a nichrome/kanthal coil in a 'block' of ceramic. This looks much simpler and most likely just as, if not more, effective.

TomCatt great post. i have been trying to find a little piece of ceramic block. and also ceramic the thickness of a toothpick about 1/4 inch long for my small attys. actually that atty is available with ceramic inside. its called the Ava atty. u can get them at innovapor. be prepared to pay 40 bucks if you want one. it is not rebuildable but it can be taking apart and the ceramic wick can be wrapped. anybody know of a place to get this ceramic please post it here..

What about ceramics - Sera Siporax. Very porous stuff, made of "baked glass", is used in aquarium filtration systems.
Wicks perfect rather fragile but easily treated by files on photo above
Rather cheap. The only limitation is it's size and shape.

14$ at amazon

"Siporoid" - heating element made of Siporax. Usable for dripping.

Siporoid after use:

Gunked, and no way to clean. Torch flame melts it.

If I recall correctly, either 36 or maybe even 34 awg nichrome will fit inside 27 gauge SS tubing. Can get the 27 gauge tubing on eBay.

ETA:

nichrome

32--0.00795--0.202
33--0.00708--0.180
34--0.00630--0.160
35--0.00561--0.143
36--0.00500--0.127

In that movie i used 2 x 0.13 mm nichrome

also i used 6 x 0.06 mm nichrome.

The task is to get about 1,8 - 3 ohm resistance on the length which fits the needle & could be inserted into it. inner diameter of needle's hole is about 0.4 mm i think.

@EvilGrym: do you find yourself dialing up the voltage with the needle system? I imagine you're getting a bit weaker vape with heat being dissipated through the needle.

It works fine both on adjusted voltage and a stoneage systems. Beacuse of a larger heating surface, contacting with a wick,
there is more vapour, than on a single coil. Heat transfers to the wick much better.

If you made a coil about 1.8 - 2.5 ohm it will work fine at 3.3-4.0 volts.

Ok, After a week (100 mil) of using the gauze wick with my E-2s I figured it was time for a rebuild.

I washed them off in the sink then dry burned it until the gauze burnt in the middle and pulled out both sides of the wick.

Cleand the coil up and threaded 4 strands (My size) of bamboo thread back through the coil, Laid some gauze across the top and I'm back in business.

This is a big plus for me if I dont have to redo the coil as I still solder my coils to the E-2. I figure one less electrical connection to worry about. LOL
