Read entire thread, had cheese cloth lying around. Spent 2 minutes re-wickinga a new CE2.
Works well, initial impression is definitely much better vapor. Curious to see how it all holds up.

I never liked the idea of the synthetic wicks and how they fell apart or the dry hit taste.
No idea how no one else thought of using the most basic of materials but :thumb: to EvylGrym for the thread and info.

Seeing how clean these stay for you guys I'm really curious to see how long they last and why the silica stuff gets so gunked up.

Anyone try this in a genesis-style atty?

As soon as I receive the wick I bought it will be used in a Genesis Mini by Van. I'll post the results as soon as I have them.

EDIT: There is a Hobby Lobby on my way home from work. I'll stop by there tomorrow and pick up the yarn in the link from Post 405, and I'll post the results with it as well.

If you're looking to spend little, skip the Ody (Odysseus by GG)...is like the Ferrari of CE2 tank style rebuildable attys, sure, it goes like s**t through a goose when it's working, but spends most of the time up on the mechanics hoist...just rebuild a CE2 (lots of threads on that)...it'll give you a good idea of how good this cotton thing can be.

edit: now that I type that, I may rebuild a CE2 again though I don't see that 1.2ml lasting long.

I'll do that. I actually have a pack of the metal ones I had forgotten about. I didn't use them because I took one apart before I used them, and it was quite rusty on the inside of the tube... And I saw a youtube vid that said the wick was saturated in nasty chemicals... Glad I finally have a use for them. Thanks for reminding about them Quigs.

Wlvapor - I'd really like to know how the cotton yarn works with the GTUS in drip mode. Also, I'd love to see how it looks when you get it set up.

I've been thinking about doing the cotton yarn or gauze with a small amount of 400 stainless mesh between the coil and the wick ........ just don't have my post and screw to get it into drip mode yet.

This is a very interesting thread. Great work going on here!

Tonight I put cotton yarn in a rebuildable "RCA" dripper atty. It works just as well as the rolled gauze. Next will be my GTUS in drip mode. This stuff works and works very well.

I tried making a sterile cotton gauze (SCG?) wick today for my genesis.

As Quigsworth suggested, I would Kanthal wire around the part of the wick that is submerged in the tank. Didn't really have time to make a great coil. So far, wicking is not perfect. Will keep trying though :)

Thanks EvilGrym.

Is there a difference between using the baking soda solution and just tap water for quenching?

Soda gives a thik layer of oxide or smth like it. I can't tell how much time you'll spend to make such layer using plain water.

It seems to me that the lower turn of your coil is too tight. It stops liquid from lifting.
All genesis-like systems has one common construction deffect - liquid is feeded from one end of a coil. So there is enogh liqid at one end and almost no liquid at the other.

Try to make a conical shaped coil. with wide turns at tank side. and leave a little bit wick further the deadend over the coil, so it could suck liquid through the coil upwards.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing but didn't have time to make a better coil this morning before work. I want to try again ASAP and will post results :).

I also had issues with the gauze, and it came down to getting the braids right. Too much fuss for me. The cotton yarn works perfectly right off the spool so I haven't used gauze since I picked it up.
