"Pharmacies across the globe are reporting a run on sterile gauze. Are people preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse or has everyone just become a clutz? News at 11:00"

sorry Nico, I didn't underline it.

I would agree the sterilized non treated 100% gauze would be the best. I remember trying the cotton yarn a couple years ago and I could never get the carpet taste out. So we gave up on it.

I would imagine the gauze web sites are wondering what the heck is going on with so many hits lately.LOL

ROFLMAO.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Whats that old saying? Once burnt, twice umm burnt.

Good luck trying to find the right stuff.;)

Heh yeah :)
I went shopping around the pharmacies just now, and the "cleanest" gauze I could find is cotton, sterile, and was bleached with hydrogen peroxide, which is fine I think (no other additional treatments were done). I also noticed that (where I could find the info), other manufacturers bleach it the same way.

Just found this on wisegeek:

"As a wound dressing, sterilized gauze does not only stop the bleeding, but it also protects the wound from additional physical damage and infection. For this reason, a person's hands must be clean and sanitized before using sterilized gauze. Since its primary purpose as wound dressing is to promote healing, sterile gauze is non-adhesive, non-toxic, and non-allergenic to avoid additional trauma. It is also common to find sterilized dressing that is treated with an antibiotic or antiseptic. An added convenience is that pre-cut sterilized dressing pads of various sizes are readily available."

I don't know if it's just my imagination or placebo effect or something, but I almost have this weird feeling in my chest.. not really "pain" but.. something. Dunno if it's from the cheesecloth. I also get this randomly from time to time, so it could be completely unrelated. I might also be looking too far into it.
I haven't tasted metal or burning or anything, so the cotton isn't burning.

It's probably just me, but I'll see if it persists. Just figured I'd throw that out there and see if that happened to anyone else.
Don't be alarmed, it's probably just me :) I'm struggling to "feel it" at this point anyhow, probably just a fluke.

The stuff I got I now use straight out of the package. There is no smell to it. Having said that maybe you should boil yours first. Just in case. :) If you want to fast dry it. Wring it out and put it the microwave for a few seconds at a time.
Hopefully this stuff will do it for ya.;)

Here's cotton on an SGV3...the SS mesh legs are from the old mesh wick I had in there, it's just a single wrap so I could get it in the holes and keep it from flying apart once in...so glad I hung on to the V3 now...it's never worked better:p

Looks like it's real easy to set up with the cotton.:)

I have a feeling there's a few SS mesh mods coming back out of the junk drawers.;)

Have to try that on one of my "cheap lines" was afraid on my lines that I wouldn't be able to remove the cotton wick if it fell inside

Pfft! there's nothing to set up, I've put 3 different wick thickness's in it in 20 mins trying to find that sweet spot...twist a wick, twist some mesh on the ends, wrap a coil and drop it in...no oxidizing, no screwing around, not to mention, it's made the V3 downright civilized:)

I have to say BJ, when I get my Lines (they're in Texas at last track woot!) I don't think I'll even bother with mesh wicks...I'll put an SS mesh "skin" around the cotton so it doesn't splay everywhere inside the tank ( and leave enough SS sticking up out of the hole in case I have to tweezer it out) but the cotton isn't like ceramic or silica, it doesn't disintegrate, in fact, when it's saturated with juice it gets serious tough and firm...plus it wicks like nothing I've seen before.

I don't know about anyone else's experience with cotton gauze but this is a game changer for me...
