I have a Vision Stone V3 tank that I keep meaning to play with  (I hate procrastinitus)

OTOH, vaped around a mL DIY TPA peppermint through cotton-wicked CE2 this morning, very slight coloring on the wick under the coil - no taste difference from silica for me - no dry hits - great plumes of vapor.

Topped off the CE2, vaped around 2/3 of the XL CE2 this afternoon. Coloring of the wick has only gotten slightly darker; but has moved out from underneath the coil - taste still the same - no dry hits. The thing is, with the silica wicks, I seldom let the juice level go below half full due to the occasional dry hit below that level.

Strange result with the cotton roll wick in a CE2 - after dinner started noticing a muting of the flavor, about 2.5 mL vaped. Took the CE2 apart and washed the wick with warm tap water, dried wick and put it back together; muting of flavor still there. No bad taste.

I always get a muted taste after eating and or brushing my teeth. I sometimes turn up the heat or add the harshest juice I have till it goes away. Vaping is so inconsistent. :)

So I have a bunch of dead ce3s that need re-wicking/coiling, silica wick and nichrome resistance wire in hand earlier tonight I came to this thread looking for info on non resistance interconnects, I figured you "Weirdos" using flammable materials for wick in a heater might know something about it.

so I am about half way through this thread, having seen all the macro photos of scarey black silica shards looking about as inviting as concertina wire, contemplating I take a quick puff and something comes flying out of my PV and sticks in my throat, itchy and scratchy makes me cough and hack, after a red faced fit at the vanity I finally dislodge it and spit a fuzzy spec of black wick material and chard juice into the bathroom sink. yuck.

have you ever seen a bug and then shortly after you get itchy all over like you mind is searching for the bug on you? yep every vape after that brought about in my mind thoughts of inhaling fiberglass deep into my lungs. most unpleasant.

so I search the house looking for cotton, and only %100 cotton I have is cotton balls, so I unroll one peel off a strip of it and roll it into into a wick, for solder-less/copper-less interconnects on the coil I made my wire way long folded the ends back on the themselves and twisted, the center of this wire was one strand where it rested on the wick but doubled up where it left the wick and traveled to the connections. thus preventing the non liquid cooled portions of the wiring from overheating.

30 min or so later I was the weirdo vaping on a perfectly serviceable PV with a hastily assembled flammable cotton wick, I half expected it to burn to ash after a few vapes, but nope 2mls later cotton is working great!

the flavor is diffrent, better in most regards although I do get a few vapes that taste vaguely like what a clothes dryer smells like. even these "dryer hits" are better than the disgusting burnt dry hits on a silica wick.

anyway tomorrows mission is to find cotton yarn and dispose of all silica wicks I can.

Thanks for this thread

Flavor still seems muted this morning with the same cotton roll wick in a CE2; not as much as last evening though. But no bad taste, so I'm gonna keep this going. No dry hits and lots of vapor. I've gone through at least 4mL of DIY peppermint with one wash of the wick last evening. Wick washed up nicely with warm water, nice and fluffy white. Coil doesn't seem to have much if any crud build up.

My juice is clear. With the silica wicks, I'd do a water rinse and dry burn about every 3-5days because after a couple of days the juice would start to develop some color (from burning and draining back into the reservoir??). I've only been using this for a day and I did a wash last evening; but at no time have I seen any color developing.

I may break out my re-built CE2s and try the cotton. I stopped using them because after a day the juice was getting highly colored and harsh.

TC, it sounds like you might be right at the edge of the "sweet spot"...pull the wick and try either slightly a smaller in diameter (you could be choking it with your coil slowing it's full wicking potential) or try one less dense which also will speed up juice flow.

The density always gets me, I'm impatient, the wick will just about fit in it's relaxed state but instead of pulling a little off and re-rolling I just twist it tighter and...

Possibly, Q. But compared to the stock silica wicks in the clearos, this is a clear winner in the actual wicking of the juice. And personally, as long as it has some taste and that taste isn't crap, I'm fine with it. A couple of months or so after starting vaping full time, I had the 'loss of taste' issue and switched to mixing unflavored juice. I had no problem vaping that for a few weeks. I've never been a 'taste chaser', once I found the peppermint, I've been perfectly satisfied with that.
