I believe it was a .hta file.

:offtopic:

Years ago I taught myself HTML, some javascript, some PERL, etc. Haven't done much recently. But at one point I had written a javascript calculator (acid-base dilutions) and had discovered that Microsoft had set up something for IE, where if you saved the html file with another extension, you ended up with a 'standalone javascript app'. I know we got some computer geeks around here :D, anyone remember this? It would be nice to have the above javascript for Ohm's Law set as a desktop 'app'.

Yes, I have tryed the hemp fiber wicks, they are ok.... or should I say better than silica wicks but to me not as good as rolled cotton batton. I think that I will be sticking with the cotton .... it is just good.

I've not had experience with hemp fibre myself, but my impression is like that of supervapes - it's pretty course stuff, is it not? Any sort of taste? It seems like a material that would be very tough (if the result is similar but it reduces maintenance, that's a big plus in my book).

Thanks to all for all the great experience posted here - I finally got a half decent wick going using the winding on a screw and threading through techniques that have been described. Love the way coils look coming off a screw - perfect! I'd share the size/pitch, but I have no idea - just used the first tiny screw I could find that looked about right.

Mine has been holding up well TC, and I've been using cheesecloth in an Ato-Miser, Vivi Nova, and Clockworks RDA all without issue. I use my wicks a little different than everyone else appears to, as I very loosely roll the cheesecloth into what looks like a rolled cigarette ( :D ), and I'll then wrap my coil somewhat tight around the cotton, and trim excess pieces off once it's secured to the atomizer. I've had very good luck with this process, and the only time I've had a muted flavor is when the air holes on the nova were plugged from stagnant liquid pooling in the center chamber. I took it apart and blew it out, good as new. You may try doing that on your CE4, if there could be any stuck in there at all.

I charred a yarn wick when I used it for the very first (and only) time, so maybe the yarn has something to do with it for you...

The RDA is by far my favorite and easiest to setup with cheesecloth.

I've been using the same technique but with sterile gauze, it looks like cheesecloth but with a finer weave if that makes sense....it just the spaces between the threads are smaller than the cheesecloth...:)

Has anyone attempted hemp fiber for wicks?

Been working with hemp just a bit and so far favorable impressions. Wicks well and based on lighter flame test of dry wick is much more heat resistant than cotton. Does aeem to give a faint "earthy" undertone to flavor but i find this more a plus than minus as i prefer tobacco flavors. Will give more thoughts as i have time to test further.

Hey I don't mind an earthy (dirt) taste sometimes, I'll give it a try next time I go to wallyworld.

They have three diameters. Small med and large. I got the small as it was closest to oem wick diameter. It is very tightly pressed though. I think it might be better to use the medium thickness which is not as tightly woven and just separate enough of a strand to achieve desired thickness.

Just a quick thanks to all the folks that took (are taking) one for the team. I have a vivi v1 crackin and popin on a cotton ball working good. >As good as can be expected from the v1's anyway<. Thanks for everyones input. Look forward to hearing updates as they come.

If you don't mind, is there a commercial source for hemp fiber?

I believe my flavor issues are my DIY juice. I mixed a new batch around the time I started using cotton. I filled a new CE2 (with silica) with my juice and the flavor is weak. Jeez, ya never change more than one thing at a time

A round up of materials would be nice. Even for someone that has been doing this (myself) the approach to using the more 'amorphous' materials like cotton balls or cotton batton is a bit daunting when reading through.

Though admittedly I've yet to re approach the batton. I've become a die hard dripper and won't tear apart one of my io6s or .357s until they die. When they do, cotton ftw :)

but all in all I keep falling back on the cotton yarn from Michaels, it just works for me, with the fastest break in period

There needs to be a red warning sign to every suggestion of cotton as a wick, to wash hands well before rolling your gauze/ball. Hand sweat tastes horrible

Rinse hands well with either just hot water or wash with UNSCENTED soap :D. Soap don't taste good either ;).

ETA:
Hmmm, wonder if latex or nitrile gloves would impart any 'taste'?
