Just be sure any candle wicks you try don't contain any 'extraneous' components (lead, zinc, etc). See this - http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/wicksandwaxes/f/Is-There-Still-Lead-In-Cored-Candle-Wicks.htm

Very good call TomCatt.

Just got off the phone and she says that some of their wicks do but the round cotton oil lamp wick is undyed, unbleached with nothing but 100% cotton. Description below. Sounds perfect if it will fit in the new Ody and Penelope ceramic. Anyone know the size of new ceramic?

Thanks,

Chris

Well, I got my G-Tank US in the mail today, and had the dripping mode setup and vaping within 10 minutes. It's working great, no off taste and made a perfect wick first go around. This is tasting better than my Ato-Miser ever did with cotton.

I accidentally threw away the package my cheesecloth came in, so I haven't a clue what measurement this stuff is.

Quigs, I'll shoot you a PM at some point tonight, I have a couple questions you may be able to answer for me. If I can get the kids settled, that is :D

I re-instituted ss mesh in my GTUS. Only change I made was to cut some yarn the same length as the ss, and carefully spread out the yarn in a flat piece and wrapped the whole ss wick with it. No more leaks, great cotton tasting vape and the wicking capabilities of ss.

Also no hot spots on coil because you can position some of the cotton around the tails.

Has any one tried cooking twine yet, the stuff you use in an oven to tie up chicken, turkey, beef, ECT? It can take a bit of heat and you should not have to boil it, or do much prep work. You might have to untwist it a bit if it is wound really tight to allow better wicking. Plus the stuff is really easy to find on the net or at the super market. :) The twine is cheap and comes in the average roll of 200 ft (60m) or so, should last a while if your only using 3 inches (25.4mm) or so at a time.

I think if you can cook with it safely like every one has been doing since forever...., you should be able to vape on it if it wicks well enough. I am still waiting on my pen so i have not tested it yet, can some one give it a go? If it works should be less work than yarn, cotton balls, or cheese cloth.

After reading the entire thread (wow 171 pages) to find any negatives on cotton I decided to give cotton a go in my DID Genesis-style atty. I always have problems with the SS mesh having shorts. At home I had some 100% cotton yarn #12 and I bought some sterile 100% cotton gauze. I've set up one with the yarn end one with the gauze. My juices tast so very good now, the vapor and throathit are excellent. Both yarn and gauze perform great. Have yet to experience what is better gauze or yarn. Both work great. Thanks to you all, it's +1 cotton user for sure.

Update after two tanks of juice of 3ml (mainly PG) each:
Both stil going strong and even.

The gauze:
The gauze in which I use a sweeter juice is now brown (not burned), no color change on the liquid in the tank.
I made the coil first around a 3mm drill. The wickhole in the DID is 3mm. Then I rolled a piece of gauze and stuck it through the coil in the wickhole. Easiest way to set up. Can put a new gauze wick in without distroying the coil.
Wicking is still perfect after 6ml and no crud on the coil.

The Yarn:
I took mij DID apart and filled the wickhole (3mm) with 9 pieces of yarn #12 and 3 inch long from the bottom. The idea was if the wick becomes less, i can pull a new piece of wick through the coil.
Then I put a 1,5mm nail in the wickhole and wrapped the coil, removed the nail afterwards.
In this I use a less sweet juice and after 6ml of juice the wick is caramel colored. No crud and wicking is still awesome.

I think the outcome will be equal and highly depends on what juice you use as to longivity of use.
BTW. I tried Bobas Bounty also but the wicking on braided cotton yarn was no good, I braided a wick from the yarn to tight I think.
Have to try the Bobas on the yarn strings and the gauze.

Keep you posted on results!

Works very well. I have a different brand but have been using "butchers twine" for a month or so now.

I went to Michael's today to get cotton yarn. Big letdown. With a mighty wall of delectable choices I couldn't find unbleached undyed cotton yarn. The worker was of no help. What should I look for? Or just get butchers twine?

I did the same thing Michaels didint have 100% cotton or 100% bamboo I found 100%cotton at Walmart.

You think ss wicks better than cotton?

Yes. I think the SS wick will let go of the juice better and with cotton there on the outside it draws it right out.

What I did was wrapped the cotton around the SS wick as an insulator and it absorbs (wicks) juice out of the SS. I kept having dry hits with the cotton yarn. I also used to have hot spots and flooding with SS wicks. Now the cotton keeps the SS from flooding through the hole, and the cotton provides the insulator around the coil and hole and stops the glowing wire from the post to the wick.

Tonight I started getting dry hits so I took my 3 ml tank apart and the wick (cotton) was completely dry and the tank didn't have a single drop in it.

As far as prepping the yarn, just cut a piece the length of the SS wick and remove the twisted threads that hold it together and unwrap it to about 1/2 to 3/4 " wide, then wrap that around the SS wick.

Was the cotton wick black like a burnt marshmallow? I put 60 mil through one of my E-2's and it was black/black but it still vaped good. I just changed it out yesterday for no other reason than to have somethin to do.
I also rewired a ole 510 attie with a cotton wick. It was alright but not as good as a E-2. :>)

I had about 4 or 5 cotton wicks in the CE2 since switching, and basically just because I could :D. I was rinsing the wick and coil under hot water every couple of days; except for the next to last wick. That one was used for about a week and a half w/o a rinse. I tried pulling the wick through to a clean spot but didn't have much luck. The coil was very black and cruddy but that part of the wick rinsed fairly clean. Dry burned and rewicked it; but still getting dry hits from it. Already had the Stone tank set up so just decided to switch over to it.
