I have to say, I never even thought about throwing a vid up on photobucket...I learned something today...normally I would go to bed now, cause my dad used to say "learn something new everyday, when you do, relax, you're done"...but I actually learned 2 things today (tomorrow I plan on just calling it in)...I left my Ody on my desk (upright, in it's little stand) for 4 days (I don't take it down to the cottage, just in case the border guards confiscate it...) I left the flow control open on it, normally no big deal, the ceramic would saturate and it would stop on it's own...cotton batton on the other hand, nope, I found it sitting in a pool of 5ml's of juice... apparently it just keeps wicking, dripping off the wick and down through the airway and out the bottom, interesting...in a crappy sort of way...

With flow control off would this not happen? Sorry if this sounds dumb but after replacing a leaky break caliper the other day and still having a leak. Makes me think differently these days.

Thanks

I'm having my doubts, the flow control isn't a perfect seal, it's metal against metal but with the viscosity of the juice being fairly thick it should more than be enough to stop the flow...just have to remember to turn off the flow control...btw, I've got a mechanic buddy who told me that the average working pressure of a cars braking system is about 1000 psi and in a panic situation that can double (don't ask me why I remember this crap)...it's amazing there isn't brake fluid all over our roads...

Hahahah! There wasn't all over my roads but I did have almost 2 lbs. of oil soaked sand caked to the inside of my rim!!!

...hits you with cotton balls until you bleed.

Say that like Arnold...too funny ....is it just me or does anyone else wonder why Skynet and Cyberdyne Systems would give their T-1 series assassin (designed to covertly infiltrate the US to find Sarah Connor) an Austrian accent? really?

Hey, if you don't want that V1, send that bottom piece to me, I'll pay for shipping!

I've had a cheesecloth wick with a 2.6ohm coil on my V1 for a little over a week, and I haven't had a single issue out of it. It's been working great, but I need to pull it apart and see if there is any charring to the cotton...

I'll have to think about that as I do plan on trying the v2/v2.5 tanks. Not to de-rail the thread but the V1 does work fine if a person can tinker like most of us can.

+10 -- another cotton convert!! :) I used sterile cotton gauze in a Nova
tank atty, best wicking, taste ever. Keep it under your hat but as good or
better than dripping a 306 atty (I don't want to annoy the ECF dripper contingent:lol:)

Never thought my ham hands and poor eyesight would ever do such fine work,
but it was worth the 45 minutes it took to recoil what was a open coil Nova atty.
Figured I had nothing to lose but time.....

Well on my third fill I got a nasty hit on my ce2 with cotton yarn. Took it out and I had a charred spot. Believe me when I tell you if you are wondering if its burning you will notice right away. The only thing I can think of is when I pulled the silica out and put the cotton in is that I pulled the coils too close together and maybe got a hot spot.

was it the same juice every time?

dry hits are bound to happen eventually, good news is, easy to fix!

if you don't want to swap out the whole wick what I do sometimes is just wiggle the wick out so the burnt area isn't touching the coils, then try to scrape off as much material as can. not the most 'clean' but after doing this I don't taste a thing in the way of burnt or off

Yeah, I got some of the 2/0 size of that cotton wick. I should bring it in to work and measure it with the micrometer. Yeah, if I remember I'll do that tomorrow.

Much appreciated Tom!!! I need 3mm or it won't work.

The 2/0 "square braided" cotton wick is actually more rectangular than square ;). It looks to be ~2mm x 1.5mm.

Same juice. DIY plain with a touch of menthol and a touch of vanilla. I tried moving the burnt area out but still tasted nasty like it was still burning with the cleaner part. Ill have to pull the wick out tonight and dry burn and see if my coils are still burning OK. I think the next wick I put in I'll have to play with the coils a little before I fire again. They got pretty squished together and pulled to one side.

Did another hot water wash of my first cotton (roll) wick last night. Noticed a slight build up on the coil.

Removed the first cotton wick, dry burned the coil and re-wicked the CE2 this morning. This time getting an 'off' taste. I had made a few wicks this past Wednesday when I first added a cotton wick. The wick I used this morning was one of those I had made then.

Note to self: next time try a 'fresh made' wick ;)

ETA:
To anyone interested in re-wicking a CE2 (or other type) 'stock' coil - you need to make the overall wick small enough to fit in the coil; but if you get one end started you can twist the wick on each side of the coil in opposite directions to compress it and work it through the coil easily.

Try this to keep from squashing the coils together.

Thanks tom,

I might have to double it up to use in Penelope and Odyseus. Did you boil the wick before using? How long?

Thanks again for measuring that!

If you moved the burnt part of the wick away from the coil and you still get a burnt taste. I suspect it could be your juice.
It might be just me but every time I try to vape menthol I get a burnt taste from it. I usually have to rinse of the wick and coil and use a strong tobacco juice to get back to normal.

Yesterday's re-wicking has been declared a failure. The 'off' taste never really went away and the wick started 'crudding up' last evening and this morning and was starting to give harsh hits. I think I had the wick a little too thick.

Just rinsed hands real good - no soap and made another cotton roll wick for the CE2. A little 'cottony' taste at the moment; but not the 'off' taste of yesterday's wick.
