Not a great experiment by any means lol

Different wick densities is the big problem, I was rushing. I'll do it again perhaps :)

Seems the gauze kicked the crap out of everyone on the table though. Baton and silica were close. Yarn, bamboo and Mesh....meh

Good point Tom Catt. I'm sure there is a lot more at play. Its not just capillary action, I'm guessing how much the fiber can hold, and how fast it can recover from being depleted is also at play. I hated fluid dynamics during my pre medical days so I have to admit I'm clueless here, but I'm guessing heat plays a role as well.

Maybe I'll repeat it with wick densities more close to one another and suspend them all in a U shape above the cup to see what happens.

I tried to keep the wicks from pressing up against the side of the glass, because when that happens, it obviously speeds things up and adds a cheat to the race. But in 'real life' vaping of course there is quite a bit of 'touching the side of the glass' that happens

also as you puff and pull the liquid into vapor that excels the wick to suck more liquid towards the way the liquid is flowing through the wick.. if that makes since

That not only makes sense but it is the biggest and baddest secret there is, having the wicking material draw just the right amount of liquid to the coil area is what makes for and provides and excellent vape when at the perfect watts on the coil. To little and no good burning happens, to much and your flooding the coil to much and not enough vapor happens,,, the perfect pull bringing the perfect amount of liquid to within that coil area is what needs to happen, no matter what wick your using, create that and dial in the correct watts to the coil, all paired up and your vape is going to be super. Create that with the best material which enhances the taste and now your onto something really good. :) There are 2 types of new wicking material available that are being worked on and there safer then cotton, Silica, and mesh too, and provide an even better flavor , taste with the liquids :)

I am looking forward to trying this nextel i have here but do I use only nextel wick acros the ody and down into the well or do I mix it with silica mesh or???
Mr Krinkle just puts a small pc across the top. Right now I have the supplied silica spanning the whole Ody, w a small pc of Nextel on top in the center.

Make sure you take your torch to that Nextel ceramic wick and heat it up a few times till it glows Orange and then turns white again. In my personal opinion it was very good in the original IAtty, but not as good in the Odysseus 2,,, I would use just one strand of it at first going straight across your Silica or twisting it around your silica, for me it is to harsh, and I yield against using the fiberglass anymore myself Supervape. Some like it, but I only did in that iAtty-1 for some reason, but like I said a small piece combined with silica can be OK, I prefer the 2mm Silica best of all when it comes to a rope type wick, or smaller.

so do I put the silica next to the nextel and have the silica go down the side? so have the coil wrapped around the nextel and silica but only the silca goes down the sides?
Yes, this is how I have mine setup right now, but keep in mind I've only owned this Ody for like a week, so I am still experimenting also. I just received new cotton square braided wick, and replacement silica wick and cheesecloth type gauze from the Drs office yesterday. So I am in full experimenting stage. I have had the above mentioned nextel setup in my Ody for 2 days and IMO its not as good as strait silica w an extra pc of silica on top.

Hey Super, congrats on having the most quoted post in a long while, lol...

I gave up on Nextel (ceramic) on my Ody...it's too brittle after you torch it to burn off the sizing which really amps the PITA factor IMO. As far as taste goes, ya it's good no argument but the lifespan of that goodness is half (maybe a 1/3) what rolled is. Plus when I built my Ody and could see the sparkly little shards of ceramic on my fingers and hear that sound of grinding broken glass when I screw it all back together...lets just say I was pretty committed to making this cotton thing work...

I'll be the first to admit that cotton isn't as good as say day 2 of a 4 day max lifespan ceramic wick in my Ody but as a trade off between ease of build, lifespan, awesome (as opposed to epic) taste and safety...IMO, cotton for the win...silica isn't even in the race :D
