No, no, sorry Ob...I didn't mean to come across as some heavy handed cotton fanboy or nothing :D

I actually made that comment first to myself when trying to get a mesh wrapped rolled cotton wick in my GTUS and getting pretty seriously frustrated...why again am I doing this?

I did not take it that way at all. I just do not want to stray so far off topic and derail this thing. I have interest in trying that method, and am sure there are other places to discuss it.

I am considering making a mesh wick, and just putting the cotton into the ends for juice wicking, which might give me the best of both worlds.

see there I go again :)

Quig, I got a loaner Penny today and set it up with 45 count cheesecloth and 2.4 ohms 32g A1. After short breakin it is vaping very good, but a little to cool for me. With my 0 nic I need the wick/coil in my throat for good TH.:) Been vaping the Penny all day but still grab my vivi nova with the cheesecloth wick/coil batten cotton over wick for satisfaction. Also I am a lights on guy,:censored: like to see whats going on, (coil and juice).

I use 40 in the Penny, 45 in the Ody...if only because the Penny seems to dryhit a little easier than the Ody (I think it's because the ceramic's well in the Penny is a little smaller and you have to concentrate your coil on a smaller section of wick, theory???)...all I know is that I used to use the same wick I put in my Ody and I would get the occasional dry hit, since dropping to 40 it's been perfect...I use 35 in my Vivi with the slots filed to almost 3mm...but that's for now, it works pretty damn good at that but honestly I haven't put a ton of time into Vivi experimentation with a new Penny to play with...

The reason why I just don't use 35 all around is because I do tend to chain when I vape...I've found that less threads seem to wick faster, but more threads has a larger capacity to hold juice in reserve ensuring a good session (which is why I'm a firm believer now in the little wick stub sitting on the coil...best of both worlds?)...my juice is mostly 70/30 and the average temp in my area right now is 70 degrees...and yes, I know, I put way too much thought into this

I like this idea, tell us more?

I'm getting good, but inconsistent results with my E1 and T2 with cotton. It can't seem to keep up with me. (granted my gold standard now is thick mesh wicks chain vaped entirely vertical. Perfect hit everytime, and that's a tall order for a top coil). Thought about opening about the wick slots a bit, but I was scared that shaving off the chrome (I think that's what it is) would expose the chinese mystery metal and fire it into my lungs lol

Too lazy to rebuild my new vivi head, but will get to it eventually. I can't believe these people actually sell these things without NR wire and the dreaded gasket burn. I've never tasted anything so disgusting in my life.

have you played with loosening/tightening the battery pin piece? You can increase the TH by backing off of it and effectively dropping some airflow between the atty base and the battery.

for me it was too much (but I'm not using zero nic :) ). I have it cranked all the way down for maximum airflow and I'm still shocked at the TH this thing puts out for a bottom coil.

As per TomCatt's chart:

Resistance in Ohms/inch for the Resistance Wires

Kanthal Grade----- A-1 ------ A -------- D ----- Nichrome 60 -------- Nichrome 80

30 awg (Ω/in)----- 0.7 ------ 0.7 ------ 0.7 -------- 0.6 -------- -------- 0.5
31 awg (Ω/in)----- 0.9 ------ 0.9 ------ 0.8
32 awg (Ω/in)----- 1.2 ------ 1.1 ------ 1.1 -------- 0.9 -------- -------- 0.9
33 awg (Ω/in)----- 1.4 ------ 1.4 ------ 1.3
34 awg (Ω/in)----- 1.8 ------ 1.8 ------ 1.7 -------- 1.4 -------- -------- 1.4
35 awg (Ω/in)----- 2.3 ------ 2.2 ------ 2.1
36 awg (Ω/in)----- 2.9 ------ 2.8 ------ 2.7 -------- 2.3 -------- -------- 2.1

With 30g at .7 ohms per inch you need almost 3 inches for a 2 ohm coil, kind of hard to get that in tight spaces.

Mickey - if that is the very thick bamboo, multi-strands work real nice. i use the Bamboo Yarn provided by supervape. At 12 strands, it's a hard wick to beat.

This is crochet thread. It's more like string than yarn. I just wrapped it around the fingers of one hand 3 times, with the ends that made 8 strands. Wrapped the coil around it with a small nail, put it in the penelope and cut off the loops. I made some attempt to twist it. I don't have enough hands for that. It's doing really well though. I think the best so far.

The Bamboo Yarn is good stuff!

Side Note:
I've been rewicking my CE2s with the rolled cotton and loving it. I'm getting a ScubGen Mini, a couple of the SmokTech rebuildables, a "Chinese DID" and have a "Chinese Phoenix" in hand; so I haven't been buying any CE2s. Thought I popped the coil on my last CE2 yesterday (or Sunday :?:), so I fired up the 'Phoenix' with some rolled cotton, then ended up scorching the wick - I hate dripping . So last night put in a boiled candle-wick wick and this thing has been hitting very harsh . Just dug through my little never-leave-home-without-it bag and found a working CE2. Ahhhh! Personally, I'm crossing the candle-wick off my list; if anyone wants some, let me know.

:D

Try a vivi nova with the candle wick coil and batten wick over, you won't be sorry, it is getting to be my favorite and that is hard to say for a diehard SS man. Basically a jumbo CE2.
