...a little off topic.

I notice my cotton wicks beging to gunk up and/or burn at the positive end of the coil.

What might low voltage Alternating Current do for wicks and vaping? Is low power AC it even feasible at the scale or typical equipment for vaping?

Interesting thought. I hadn't noticed that, but I looked today after replacing a wick and did see that it started more at one side. Why I didn't note to myself if it was in fact the positive post on my setup after having read your comment I have no idea.

Why would one want or need to dry burn a cotton/bamboo wick?

I just dry burn the crud off when I'm rewicking (i.e. running new thread/cotton). Man that crud pops/glows/flies off the coil in an instant when there's only a coil there!

Thanks Roadrash - I am going to attempt to coil and rewick this weekend - I hope I dont burn the house down - lol

Wrap it around a cheese grater, stick in pot. No tangles. many props to Quigsworth.

If you don't have a grater, you can use a whisk instead.

That's what I'm saying. I pull the ticket one out, burn the coil by itself, slide in a new wick...good as new.

I did something not sure was very wise - pulled out the silica wicks from 1.8ohm vivi nova head and used a needle and threaded through Aunt Lydia's #10 Bamboo strands - could only get 4 stands - havent tried it yet - wondering if that is not enough threads to allow good wicking?

All of my vivi s are 4 strand and several of them still have the factory coil.

OMG - pulled out silica wick from a CE2 - yes CE2 - coil kinda messed up - but still glowing. Unraveled Aunt Lydia's #10 bamboo strands and laid all 4 over the coil - like u said TomCatt - vaping like a champ - cant go over 3.3 volts - nasty coil taste. But wow......all u guys n gals are amazing. If only I could find a vid on recoiling the CE2.........but np - this ones goes bad - CE2s are cheap - pull out the silica wick and vape on - maybe this is beginners luck and dont wanna jinx myself.......thank you folks - have a great week.......

Re wicked 2 vivi novas and the A7 in less than half an hour. All three had Lydia's # 10 for a week and the vaper was falling off. It was very easy to rewick with these oval 28g coils. Pull the old thread out, dry burn the coil, pull new thread thru, fill, and vape. I think these 28g will last a long time, the weak link now is the rubber grommet. Have to work on that and find a solution. Be great to have a coil that last six months or longer.

Try as I might, I just can't get used to the 'taste' of aunties bamboo. With my juices, I get a hint of something similar to ammonia. With one juice in particular after just a half hour or so I swear I get the faint smell of cat pee. I'm willing to blame this on my particular juices since everyone else seems to like the stuff so much...

I did adopt BJ's oval coil, using 30g kanthal, and in my Chalice and ERA's I'm able to get coils from 1.4Ω to 2.8Ω depending on the voltage of the device I'm using. They are sturdy and hold their shape making for easy wick swaps.

And as far as wicks go, I'm back to good old cotton baton. Its just the best for me in every way. Best average life span and super easy to use. No boiling (at least the way I've been using it), just tear off a tiny amount, roll it lightly into a loose rope and feed it into the coil. It swells up almost immediately when juice hits it, filling up the coil and produces beautiful, thick flavorful clouds, and I just love the popping and snapping I get outta this setup, lets me know something powerfuls going on and it almost feels a little dangerous!
