finally found a needle to use to wrap the wick and best i can do is 1.9-2.0Ω. my meter is acting flaky though. but of all the times i have tested it thats where it settled. going to try and wrap a double wick and see how much it changes.

You could put it on your PV to read it, but 32 AWG gives pretty Low Ωs on a 1mm Wick.

an observation, the hemp seems to give off a "sweeter" flavor and good vapor but has a strange taste to it. vaping next to a Vivi Nova mini with the stock wick the mini gives a cleaner flavor. i will let it sit over night and try it again tomorrow. so far, not impressed but it could be i have the wire wrapped a little to tight. i will wrap another one and try to not wrap it as tight.

Mylt1,

By all reports, you should keep Vaping it. It needs to break in. That Hemp flavor goes away pretty quickly. It's very absorbent, so sitting won't help. You said you washed it (boiled it), so it needs to be used. If you don't like it, don't inhale it, but use it.

Jazzy and BJ could tell you more, but they don't seem to be around at the moment. They've both been using Hemp 1mm for quite a while, and this is what they've always said about it.

Did you get this?... Hemp Twine Cord 1mm 20 Test 5 10 or 25 Yards Color Selectable | eBay from BJ43's links

Hope this helps :)

LOL. been doing side by side non stop since i wrapped that first one and am on overload right now. i will take a brake and use it again in a little while. i have vaped it so much now my normal mini taste funny. i was vaping so much i got light headed. Mylt1, I think you should have a look here.

I'm under the impression that you're wrapping the wire directly around the wick, in fact, while BJ43's recipe for vivinovas is to make loose coils and then to insert strands of hemp into the coil.

If I got it right, the idea is to leave room enough for the hemp wick to swell in the oval coil, filling it when wet... not sure if you're going to get good results with the wire directly wrapped on the hemp, 'strangling' it.

Yes Mylt,

This page shows you how you build an Oval Coil, wrapped around two tooth picks, that BJ designed for things like the Vivi Nova, where space is cramped. I was going to get to this later, but xpen beat me to it. He's using 28 AWG there, but the procedure will work fine for you. Beege is into really Low s!!! .psssssssst ..But he also gets to spread the Coil across more Wick like that, with lower resistance 28g being able to make more wraps, which is more to the point.

This Oval Coil would let you fit 2 (3, or maybe 4) strands in the Coil, although you may have to modify the Silicone Cover to accommodate it. Looks like he has 6 in his. Something else to play with, while working on getting your 2.4 Ωs. And notice how close the Coils are... quite tightly wrapped. Again, that's 28g, so the wire is fatter than your 32g, but you get the point.

If you wanted to make a precision 2.4 Ω Coil, you could measure the length needed with your meter, mark it with a dent, and wrap in Non-Resistance Wire for your legs, then wrap the Kanthal part around your Wick. Of course, you'd have to purchase Silver NR Wire, but this way, you could make a precision 2.4 Ω Coil every time. This would also eliminate the potential for Hot Spots outside of the Coil, and the potential Scorching of the Silicon Insert. Just a thought.

THANKS XPEN!!! .:)

Just to clarify BJ43 is not into very low ohms and if any coil of mine is below 1.8 ohms I redo it. The reason for the oval coils was to be able to get over 2 ohms of 28g into a vivi, and yes six wraps (pretty tight in a vivi) and I have now gone to 30g that gives me a 2.4 ohm in a 6 wrap oval.

Thanks for the correction. I was just trying to help in the absence of everyone else. I'm using 1.8 Ωs myself.

I was editing again when you wrote, adding in about NR Wire. Good to know about your going to 30g. I haven't read that whole Thread yet.

Sorry, no insult intended. :)

I finally got some 28, 29, and 30 gauge kanthal. What a world of difference it makes. Not only does it vape much better (I'm running about 9-10 wraps on an ~ 1/8" wick) but it makes re-wicking SO much easier with the stiffness of the 28-29 gauge. I've had to cut back on wattage a bit because it vapes so much that it was hurting me. I'm sold.

I tried the hemp and AL but, to me, cotton batten is still the winner. YMMV.

I live! (heh). The hemp taste fades pretty fast for me. I wrap two 1mm wicks by hand. It's pretty stout, so I've never used a needle. As 100%VG stated, lightly wrapped is the way to go imho. Just light contact is all it needs. After it's wrapped, I shape it a bit to insure the coil is round top and bottom, and straight on the sides. It will swell some.

1.8 ohms is what I like, but I typically get 2.1-2.3 with 4 wraps. I bump the voltage a bit so it's all the same to me :)

I've had no need to modify anything on the vivis; no wicking issues or leaking except when I occasionally overfill:) Hemp wicks extremely well. I keep my wick very short though. Just enough to make contact with the tank nothing more. If your wicks are longer, it will take some vaping to get the earthy taste out of the hemp. I boil it 3 times, each time carefully pouring off the water "off the top" while never allowing the twine to break the surface. Each boil is 10-15 minutes on a stove. No microwaves involved (no, I don't own a tinfoil hat). ;)... not that I'm adverse to 'em...

Oh, and I learned the hard way with "Aunt Lydia's" bamboo thread: flavor of the fluid will be affected by hemp, bamboo, and cotton. Peppermint and menthol taste FUNKY on bamboo (imho).

Once the hemp is broken in, you'll only taste it if you're pushing it too hard. Unlike cotton, hemp gives you more of a warning before going poof. :)

Great!!! ..Now I've gotta get an AGA-T.

What is your Vaping Arsenal - I'll call it VapeWare. .I can't see the picture as I write, so I can't see your VapeWare. .I'm using a Vivi Nova on an eVic, but after your post, with a 1/8" Wick (Geeze!!!), I know the Vivi Nova will never do. .Whaddaya think of the AGA-T? .I can afford that one, and I can get a nice Glass Tank on one of those puppies.
Thanks :vapor:

AGA-T2: I think will be a good option
Glass Tank: Flame polished ends will soon be available.

Thanks Cool,

I really appreciate that. I've seen the Video Reviews, and it seems like a dream (though tall and heavy), and I saw an AGA-T that came with a Glass Tube (can't remember where). And I just happen to have a 1/8" Drill Bit. That, and BJ's #500 Mesh procedure with no center hole would probably set me up like bluegrasslover there. I like the thought of not having to draw on it for so long to get good vapor. And the price tag is quite affordable.

Do you have one of these? Is there something else that you'd suggest, or anyone else. I really want a Glass Tube, to prevent the No-Juice Dry-Hit thing, so when I decide to go to Quig's Batten (or any Natural Fiber), I can see the Juice Level.
