The Pit of Despair
This is a great thread.

I started running my AGA-T2 with the 1mm lovepetal hemp in a U-wick and I'm pretty impressed. I drilled both the wick hole and post hole to 1/8" and run 3 strands of the 1mm. Boiled 20 minutes twice with a water change and rinsed in distilled water.

The u-wick keeps up with pretty heavy vaping. I can't really chain it on 24mg at 4V, on a 1.9ohm coil of 30ga, but it definitely keeps up with my pace.

Whew! Been a while since my last visit here too :D. Still using the rolled cotton (occasionally when I'm bored enough, I'll roll out a foot or two of cotton wicking). Been using a Kanger T3 lately, can't get the rebuild down on this thing, so I ordered a couple of Kanger Evods which should be easier to rebuild. Here's a thread for anyone doing the R-NR wire ;) http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...095-resistance-no-resistance-wire-welder.html

What you laughing at? You wanna share? lol

I thought about getting a T3 but I never cared much for bottom coils. Seems like there is no way to regulate the joose flow, either too much or not enough. At least with a top coil you can just tip it if-n it runs dry. Which almost never happens anymore with cotton/bamboo wick.;)

Dang people, don't they realize that I'm just 'borrowing' their images :grr:

This will be the third source for this pic:

Since getting the BO-6 rbt (bottom-coil), I've converted from top-coil. I'm just getting a lot better and cleaner taste with the bottom-coils as compared to the top-coils. So far (a couple of weeks) haven't had any wicking issues with the T3.

As far as pre fabbed bottom coils go, the T3 is the only one I've tried that doesn't make me want to quit vaping and pick up a pack of unfiltered camels. Rewicked with aunt lydias it worked great for me. But since I like a hotter vape it could never be my main thing. And I'm really sensitive to the 'taste' that comes off of that built in mouthpiece (or is it just the plastic tank?)

And yeah that T3 can be a PITA to rebuild

Kanger is coming out with the "Protank" soon (waiting for someone to start up a co-op for them ;)). The Protank is a glass and metal (chromed brass I think) version of the bcc; it has a replaceable head like the Evods (hopefully easier to rebuild than the T3s. They are listed on alibaba at $8-10 per unit; but Kanger website says they aren't selling them until 3/15 and at $22.

A Note:

I've never had anything against silica wicks, except with top-coil cartos they never seemed to wick fast enough. Cotton seems to me to wick much faster than silica so that's why I hopped on the bandwagon.

I've recently been using the Kanger T3 and Evod bccs and have been using them 'out of the box' with the silica wicks. What I've noticed is that after a couple of days use with the silica wicks I develop an 'intermittent' cough - vape, vape, vape, cough, vape, vape, cough, vape, vape, vape, vape ... etc. With the T3 I replaced the "flavor wick" (who came up with that? :D) with a cotton wick and had been fine. I recently got my Evods in and the same thing happened - just replaced the "flavor wick" with cotton and everything seems fine now.

Well, with all the talk of the dangers of SS wicks, I decided to experiment with some other things. Not totally convinced that SS is bad, but I like to experiment anyway, so what the hell. Anyway, i bought some 100% organic "cotton rounds" at Green Life Grocery to experiment with (no bleach, chlorine or other chemicals). I'm using a GTUS in drip mode. I built a coil on a toothpick and attached it to the atty and removed the toothpick. Fired it up a few times to break in the coil. I then pulled a thin layer of cotton off one of the "rounds" and rolled it into a tight wick-looking roll. I slid it into the empty coil. It was loose, as I have read on here how much the cotton expands. I soaked it down with juice and put the top on. What can I say? It works really well. I'm quite pleased with it. Great flavor, great throat hit. The cotton seems to wick really well, as everyone else has said. Great little dripping setup. I appreciate everyone's input on this thread. I've got some other things coming to experiment with as well (braided cotton wick off ebay and some bamboo yarn). Fun times . . . .

Just a random question, was this wick ready for a replacement? I'm using cotton also in my A7 and it looks like this when I have to change it, that's after 3-4 ml of liquid but with 4/3 coil turns. Your's looks like 5/4? Of course yours is an IGO-L if I'm not wrong.

Hmm, I don't know if it needs replacing or not. It's the first one I've ever built with cotton. My plan, I suppose, is to use it until it starts to taste bad. So far, it still tastes good. I know that silica gets black within the first few minutes of use, so I don't know if color is a good indicator. And I don't know to what extent cotton should look and/or respond like silica. Yeah, I don't know much, obviously.

As for your other questions, yes, that's a 5/4 wrap. I'm using kanthal 30 so if I go any lower than that it usually starts to burn too hot, at least with SS wicks. As for the atty, it's actually a GTUS in drip mode. One of the awesome things about the GTUS is that it has 4 different configurations. I didn't think I would ever use the dripping mode but, alas, now I am.

Also, I did another cotton setup last night on one of the AGA attys. I rolled the cotton the same way and inserted both ends of the cotton wick into the tank. One end goes through the wick hole, the other through the fill hole. Since you can insert the syringe beside the cotton when refilling the tank, no need to drill any extra holes. Basically, it's a cotton "U" wick. It works really well. Pic:
