I've been over on the SD site bugging them about tungsten carbide? Or other forms. The someone told me you were talking about it here. This has some info about it. Disregard that it is a jewelry site, it still has the properties.

Surbiton Pete, are you Pete over there? Anyway, here is an informative site. Though it is for jewelry, Tungsten is used in NASA applications, etc. But, it is made several ways.

Tungsten Overnight

I'd like to hear how those of you who are experimenting with it do. Good Luck!

Silica is found in all types of sand and is the primary ingredient used to make glass and ceramics. People work with sandblasters and live in desert... The only way one could die from silica fibers would be to shove enough to ones lungs to block air flow. They are too soft to penetrate tissue. Also I have heard local health personel here saying that eating a bag of silica gel desiccant is not harmful. Some people actually eat them for others amusement. Silica is used in fiberglass but they also use other chemicals which makes it loose its heat resistance.
Small quantities might be found in coffee makers, irons etc. as insulators.

Silicosis is a progressive, incurable disease of the lungs (a fibrogenic pneumoconiosis) caused by inhaling silica dust.

"In most instances, 10 to 20 years of occupational exposure to silica dust are needed for silicosis to develop.", "Only very small silica particles less than 10 microns (0.0004 inch) in diameter penetrate to the finer air passages of the lungs, and particles of one to three microns do the most damage." silicosis (disease) -- Britannica Online Encyclopedia

Assuming silica fibers would be less than 10 microns in diameter they would still magically need to get chopped into 10 micron pieces to have the same effect. This of course assuming that these particles would not form bigger particles with burned residue of e-liquid.

Assuming the piece in atomizer is 2x2x4mm in size(x) and silica fibers weight 0.0010000 grams per cubic mm(y) and 5 grams is enough to cause silicosis:
x=2*2*4
y=1000/(1000*1000*1)
5/(y*x) = 312.50

So one would still have to completely vaporize around 300 filaments.
