Thanks.. I think I need to just roll a whole new ss wick. This one just keeps giving a funny metal taste. I had such a hard time rolling it thin enough to get it to slide down into the hole. I'm pretty sure my coil is adequate. I just need to keep working with it. I'd like to experiment with different wire gauges and mesh sizes but all that takes ordering more stuff and right now after Christmas, paying off my cc is my priority.
I use SS Mesh in my Vivi Nova 3.5ml.... here are a things I do that could help.
1. Cut your mesh (I use 500) on a diagonal on your sheet. Meaning dont cut it square out of the sheet of mesh.
What I do is take a business card, and measure out how I want my mesh. I use 20x40mm.
After I cut that size out of my business card, I use it as a template.
Place that on your mesh... and turn it diagonal...so it is at a 45 degree angle to the edges of your mesh.
This will make bending your mesh EXTREMELY easier...without kinking.
2. Take a small paperclip.... roll your mesh around it. Keep rolling...test fitting into the head...rolling...test fitting.
Once it will go in straight to the head.... then bend the mesh into your U shape. Leave the paperclip in for support...
It should not kink if you go slow and cut your mesh on the angle. Keep test fitting while shaping the U.
Once you get it where you want it... Oxidize it with the paperclip in there.
3. After oxidized.... take a very very small piece of cig rolling paper and roll it around the wick where your coils are.
The idea is to get a tiny piece wrapped around the mesh so if you put the wick in the head..the cig paper would be inside with the coil.
If you make it to fat....it will squeeze in the sides. It is ok....but it will not burn off when you test fire the coils.... you would need to gently remove the excess cig paper. The cig paper will give your coil a little extra between the coil and mesh. Make sure to roll the coil semi tight around the cig paper. The paperclip will give enough support to do so.
4. Gently straighten the paperclip...and remove it. You do not need to straighten it all the way...just enough to slide out the paperclip.
5. Insert the wick into the head and reconnect everything. If you twist the hot legs or not is up to you. I normally dont...
6. Test fire to burn off the cig paper, and that will leave a nice extra coating under the coils to help prevent hotspots.
I use this method all the time.... takes maybe 5 minutes and I rarily get hot spots. It wicks well...
You just need to vape a tank or so to get the mesh working well....but that is normal.
To clean...I just empty my juice. Dry burn the coils while blowing off excess gunk. Get the coils firing hot, then just re-add juice.
