Wicks and Coils

This probably belongs in some DIY area but I don't know where that is so if it gets moved no biggy.

During the last two days I've been finally learning how to rebuild protank / evod heads and I've finally got it down I think. However, I'm getting a funny, sort of oily taste no matter how fine of a job I do. Can this be something contaminating the wicks and coil that I'm using. I got them from PBDragon. The oily tastes makes me think that there might be some factory residue on the wire but there's also a funny aftertaste that makes me think that it's coming from the wick as well. What would be the best way to clean wicks and wire before recoiling?

It's most likely your wick, silica right?

Try running both your wick and wire separately over a lighters flame, get them thoroughly heated, this should burn off whatever residue is on them.
Wrap your coil and the funky taste should be gone

if your using silica just torch it, it will not burn. you can use a plain bic lighter and just run it over the wire then run the wick through the blue flame.
