Did you give the coil a good burn before wicking?
The difference in leg lengths between the two makes it look like there's no way they're heating evenly. And if you can't tighten it all down properly, you should just quit messing with it until you can properly install everything.
soggy wet wicks:

that's what i call soggy wet wicks.
your's look DRY.
I know what wet wicks look like. I had the well completely full and the wicks juicy. Same result. Doesn't matter the amount of juice I have on it.
So what are you using to power it.
A sigelei 100w. I have tried adjusting the wattage from 20-40w, didn't want to go any higher from fear that the taste is coming from a short or burnt cotton, if that makes sense.
What's the ohms and gauge of the coil
and as papa_l asked above earlier on, did you give the atty a cleaning?
it could just be machine oil that you are tasting;
you might get the taste of machine oil coming from down in the insulator material under the positive post.
I am using 22 gauge at a .3 build. I had a .2 build earlier that worked very well. I realize this is dangerous for my experience level and I am waiting on some higher gause kanthal to go for a .5 or so.
ouch; that's way out of my guesstimation league; I think that will take way more than 30 watts.
You had a 0.2 build earlier on the same atty? If so then it should be a machine oil issue.
