Well I have been using the kayfun 3.1 a lot . Like the ease of the setup so I bought 2 clones and one original. Now I need to start trying different wicks just not sure which way to go . I see the ekowool is used a lot and cotton . Now on the Ekowool they have the braided with and without core and a lot of different sizes .Which wick do you use on your setups?

I use organic cotton in everything myself. I have tried other materials, but cotton seems to work best, particularly in the KFL+. I did try a genesis style tank at a recent vape meet wicked with Nextel XC-116, which was very good. By very good, I mean I could discern *no* flavor at all from the wick material. I didn't get to actually handle the stuff, so I can't say if it will work in the Kayfun. I have run across others who are using it in PT2 rebuilds, and they swear by it. It is pretty costly stuff. I think I might try a foot or 2.

Taste wise in the Kayfuns, I don't like ekowool. It's not that I can taste the wick so much as it just doesn't seem to let enough of the flavor of the juice through. It's less of an issue in a Kayfun compared to a PT2 since the KF is so much better at flavor in the first place. I find with cotton, I am getting immediate good intense flavor. It is also easy to use and cheap.

All that being said, it is my experience with the Kayfun that it is such a solid platform, it reveals a lot about a lot. If your wicking material is off, you will know it. Same with your juice, or your coil build. When you get it all right on the other hand, it is really very, very good.

yes that is true when you get it right its awesome and with the way they are made it seems to be right 98 percent of the time at least for me ...I have yet to make a coil on it that didn't perform ..
Has anyone tried the hemp wicks out there? I see them also on ebay for sale and boast the all natural way to vape no fiberglass jaw or something to that effect...what is fiberglass jaw anyway? anyone?

Glass Joe's brother? Remember the arcade game Punch Out? I am really dating myself there. If I could get back the quarters I pumped into that thing, I could afford to buy several Provaris...

silica wicks... it is made of "silica" e.g. glass... and to make it soft and flexible it is a very fine glass fiber, hence the term fiberglass jaw
if you have some silica, cut it witha dull pair of scissors and carefully watch the cut area for a fine "mist" of glass fibers to puff out...
a magnifying glass helps with bright lite

oh and BTW I use cotton in my 3.1

I used silica wicks in my 3.1 for awhile. PITA compared to cotton. I tried cotton without boiling and it tasted nasty so I wrote it off. A month later I boiled the cotton in distilled water, rinsed in distilled water, dried and wicked.....best thing ever. No tasting the wick material and it brings the juice to the coil just right! Love the cotton after it's been boiled. I use cvs rolled cotton. Itsa good times! :vapor:

I've heard about a fiber called ramie that some people like as much as cotton for flavor and lasts much.longer. Anybody using it?

Have found Ramie Love!! I started with cotton then after going through 5 balls, went to degummed hemp fiber. Been loving Hemp, then stumbled on Ramie in the Just Hemp thread. Took some time to attain Ramie understanding, but now in the process of changing all my rba's over when re-wicking is needed.

Ramie has no noticeable taste with vape and provides a very clean rich vape from the first vape on. Ramie also has superior flow potential and is much more heat tolerant. (RAMIE TOP: Sometimes called "china grass" or "china linen"; it is white, very lustrous, and looks much like white silk. Good for blending with wool. Ramie is rot resistant and heat proof and is thus excellent for table runners, placemats, etc.) That was from the Woolery where I purchased mine.

The "rot resistant and heat proof" description is what really caught my eye, sounds like good thing to have for a wick. Ramie is a joy to work and wick with. Once saturated with juice, it compresses nice and tightly, and when the fibers are kept tight, neat and uniform, ramie flows like a fire hose. Rba's with juice control are greatly enhanced when using Ramie Fiber. Vape a bit dry, crack open jc a tad, instant response, starting to flood or bring the watts down and need less juice, turn jc down a tad and are rewarded with optimal flow. Takes a tank or to for the fiber cell walls to become fully saturated, but once there, works like a well plumbed faucet.

Yep, Ramie love here. Main trick is dripping juice onto the fiber section that one will use to wick the coil, compressing it down and keeping the fibers straight and neat, trim away all the fly away fibers, and you have a wick that's easy to thread wrap and wick your coil.

Before Saturation:

Below is the section of ramie that I am working with to build a flash-e-vapor V2 rba/rda tank system. I have pre-treated about 2-3 feet of my fiber by gently boiling in a water & VG bath for 30 minutes or so. This is just a small section that I have cut and separated from the main strand.

After Saturation:

I gently ran a thin line of juice down the length of the fiber, then gently working the juice into ramie from the middle out, taking special care to keep the fiber nice, straight and uniform. Once compressed neat and trimmed, this is what it looks like. Notice the thin strand that I had to peel off to get my wick just right. Very easy to peel off a section or add on some more if needed, always working from the middle out. One of the things I love about this fiber.

All mounted, tails tucked, trimmed, saturated, and ready to vape. Vaped it first in dripping mode, love that feature of the flashi, before I tanked it. This build came out to 0.61 ohms and Vapes Quite Excellent!!

I'm a Believer, a Ramie Believer that is. lmao.

Vape long and Prosper!!!

P.S.: the cat bites!

I use hemp fibers most of the time but do also use cotton. I prefer the hemp in its wicking capability's and taste although initially it requires treatment. all in all I much prefer the hemp, imo it brings out the flavors a bit more then cotton.

I've been using Peaches and Cream 100% cotton yarn for wicks. You can buy some at Walmart. I use the white that has been whitened using hydrogen peroxide. It's super easy to put through and remove from a microcoil. I boil it and it has no break in period and tastes great. I've been using it on all of my KFL/R91s for a few weeks now and I've become a big fan.
