First off I've been using protanks since I started vaping based on recomendations from a few friends at a local B&M. Now all the issues with protanks everyone lists I've had and solved either by kangers improvements or some pre-tuning of my coils (not rebuilding right away just minor adjusting). I thought i had them all figured out but today I got a new one. Fresh coil in a freshly washed tank with a fresh juice fill is hitting great but along with the usual good flavor comes a dry dusty aftertaste. Having used at least 100 factory coils in the year I have been vaping across 5 different pro tanks and minis I have never had this dusty aftertaste.

Its not the flat flavorless, cottonmouth hit during vapers tongue but a full flavor hit with a dusty taste like you'd get if you inhaled while standing near a car doing doughnuts on a dirt road. The juice is ORange Juice Jones from Totally vaped out on a 2.2 coil running7.5 watts on a evic if that makes any difference. THere is no burnt taste at all and it is a high VG juice 80+%. I've had no problems with the tank on this juice untill this fill and I'm 2/3 the way through a 30 ML bottle.

Any ideas anyone?

did you shake your juice up real well? I forget every once in a while with my juice and if I pull up a good glob of juice with more nic in it it can change the effect entirely. Even in my protank..

that's a first one.

Take the tank off of the base and set it aside and pull the center post. Burn it for a second with what juice is left on it and look for any red on the coil.

that's the second idea.

did you let it sit for a minute to soak up the juice? that would be contingent on you having just taken a few puffs off of it so far, if you're halfway into the tank it wouldn't be that.

that's what ideas jump to my tiny little neanderthal mind at the moment

That's weird. Did you take the vent tube off the coil and inspect it before use? The only thing I can think of is there is/was some manufacturing debris in the coil area. Probably won't be able to tell now that the coil and wick are wet. One person found a small shard of metal in a new coil assembly when they inspected before use.

Yea its a wierd issue. I always pull the vent off the coils to make sure the flavor wicks are straight since sometimes they get tucked down along the side and that the coil isn't touching the sides as well as test fire and prime them, but didn't see anything obviously wrong. I thought spoiled juice since I had it in my truck all day but its fine in my mini rda tester. I'll have to try a dry burn and see if there are any dark spots in the coil that usually show up if the wire alloy wan't blended well.

There is no off flavor or strange reactions that point to tooling oils of any kind and the coil isn't burning the silicon center pin grommet. I liken it to licking raw flour or that dry taste you get from high tannin fruits if you eat them before they are fully ripe. Good thing is its only one out of the last 30 coils and its not dead just "off"
