Ephedra was a wildly popular weight loss supplement about 10 years ago until it was banned (I still get some from China...works for me)
If you look at the sequence of events in the handling of Ephedra, one might expect that that may be the approximate way that proposed nicotine banning might go - who knows, but it's a little history.
The key difference IMO is that Ephedra caused death, and death to famous people.
