Reporting back with a big fail.

It's too big, and the bits I got for my Dremel are too small for the...thingy that tightens the bit down. I can do an order for West Marine right to their shop, but honestly, this has been a lot of damn time and not too sure if I like my AGA's :/

are you just talking about cutting the rope with the dremel?

EDGE your dremel should have come with several different size collets (the inside piece that tightens down on the bit) for using different size bits. I got tired of those things and upgraded mine to a little 3 jaw chuck that they make for it. No more looking for or switching out the collet thing all the time - makes it much more handy if you ask me lol

Miler I think the amazon stuff was .094 in diameter which would be the 3/16 size. I just wondered because I am courious if the different diameters wick differently even though the construction is the same. Guess Im going to break down and order some from mcmaster car tomarrow lol

Well i ordered some from the amazon site withe thread in the middle. I got it in, cut off chunk for my AGA T+ with my gerber... Kinda messy, eh oh well.

I did take it apart, relatively easy just twist an end till a strand comes loose and unwrap it from the core, then do the same for each strand. Pull out the thread and either rewrap or boil/torch separated. Rewrap the "threads" around the core. You can push the ends on a hard flat surface to make them even.

I wrapped the top with a piece of oxidized 500 SS, i might try doing another wrap to smooth out the bumps or stop being lazy and use my dremel...

So far its wicking ok, better than my SS wick but then again that might just be the Bobas...

Thanks for the idea!

I've never tried to reassemble a rope after pulling it apart. Interesting to know it can be done! I'll have to try it next time I build a wick - I've been on the same one for weeks now.

The silica mutes the flavor some, but the wicking is amazing.

I just got my wire in the mail from McMaster carr today. I haven't had time to play much with it yet but (hopefully get one set up tomorrow) I did discover it does have a multicolor (red-yellow-blue) thread running through the middle. I started playing with the end of the cable and the outside bundles sort of 'unscrewed' from the middle one and I was able to remove the thread rather easily. I only unwound like 6 or 8 inches and removed the thread then since it wasn't cut yet I was able to twist it back together quite easily back into its original cable form. I don't think it would be so easy to put back together a wick size piece as the individual wire bundles would end up in a pile on the table lol but I could be wrong.
So does torching it affect the wicking at all? Im still going to wash and torch before use but was curious if skipping the torch treatment had any effect on its wicking ability.

I was able to unwind after cutting it, wasn't difficult at all since it holds it's shape well. I only unwind 5 or 6 of the strands though. Also, my previous statement about muted flavor has been fixed. I lost my vamo two weeks ago to a broken center post so I just had my natural. My natural just wasn't cranking out the wattage needed. Got my vamo back yesterday, popped my AGA on there along with two 18350's and cranked the wattage up to the full 15....clouds of vapor now with tons of flavor! Wicking is phenomenal.
