I just got in my order from westmarine.com. Haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but the only wire that fits my AGA-T2 is the 3/32" 7x19. I did have a chance to check it for nylon and it does have red thread running through it that was quite easy to remove. I will report my experience when I have more time to experiment.

So, can we get an overview of this? Im interested in starting using RBAs, and this looks pretty awesome.

Well It looks as if so far the 7x7 is the only one that wicks well. Seems to me that if you get that one, burn the nylon out of it, and wrap some mesh around the top. You will have a wicking machine!

I have had my rope for a while now but will be making my first attempt at this tomorrow.... Ill report back then!

I'm in on this!

I stopped by my local West Marine, and the guy there was cool enough to give me 1' of the following for free:
1/8" 7x7
1/8" 7x7 with outer covering
3/32 1x19

I'm going to give these a go in the morning and see what they're like. I can say right now the 1/19 is very inflexible compared to the 7x7's

This is some brave new world .... we're doing :]

hmmmm this seem like a nice quick swapping and recoiling idea. I wonder if when using the 7x7 rope istead of using mesh we topped it with a nextel sleeve like I see in other threads. seems we would get the same wicking and easy swapping ability without the cromium hazard as the nextel acts like a shield of sorts keeping the high temp coils off the wick.

Don't see why not. I'd considered it, but I'm afraid of nextel.

I have some of the nextel and I'll be darned if I can figure out how to keep it from comming apart. Every time I'd cut a piece and try to put it on a wick it would just unravel and fall apart. And I torched the crap out of it first too which I thought was supposed to help...

You gotta make sure and torch that stuff REALLY well until there is no green flame. This gets rid of all the products of manufacturing and it doesn't fray when you cut it

Edit didn't read your whole post.... Sorry

all good :) I read that it gets much easier to work with when (ie less falling apart ish) if its put through a cycle in a kiln. i dont rember the specfics anymore but since I dont have access to a kiln I torch cleaned a length and then set some up on a stand with the last couple of inches glowing white hot with a torch under it and let it sit there for ten min or better. it didnt seem to make any difference though and the stuff still just totally unravled when I tried to wrap the coil. It did hold together long enough to get the wick slid in though. Perhaps there is some magic technique I am unaware of lol. I did have the thought though that if the material came in a single strand like a roll of thread then you could wrap a layer around the end of a wick with no problem. And then I heard about folks doing just that with cotton thread on the mesh wicks but I havent tried that yet either cuz I still really dont think the mesh keeps up with my vaping habits and the cotton would get burned. I have heard the 635 mesh puts all that to rest with how fast it wicks but that stuff is expensive... If the 7x7 wicks as good as it sounds then I prolly wouldnt have to worry about the cotton burning and the cable is way cheaper :D

So made my first attempt at the ss wick. Using 7x7 from amazon supply.

Long story short... FAIL

I'm kind of a noob when it comes to genesis rbas though. I'm using an AGA T+ the first 3 times I built it went well. Worked out the shorts while pulseing and eventually got it. No matter how many times I wrap the wire around the wick with this ss rope setup I get a reading of .8- 1.2 ohms. I assume I'm getting a short somewhere but don't know where.

Currently the wick is not touching anything but mesh. Mesh is wrapped around the top and goes down just far enough to insulate the rope from touch any part of the wick hole.

I'm stumped

I used the Amazon Supply 7x7 but only put mesh above the deck. Wrapped coil off unit 32 gauge Kanthal. 5 mintes to adjust shorts . Vaping good! I did torch the wire rope very well to be sure the nylon inside was ash. One layer of mesh. Wicks well also.
My guess the mesh edge down in the wick hole is shorting.

Ok that's what I thought! Just wanted to double check! Thanks. I'll try and cut some off
