Great job experimenting here guys.

So I'm wanting to order some of this stuff for my AGA-T2 and Smoktech RSST.
I'm assuming the 3/32" for the AGA-T2, and the 1/8" for the RSST, correct?

Can you all confirm the steps once I have it?

1) Torch to remove oils and internal string
2) Wrap the coil portion of the wick with either oxidized mesh, flame treated Nextel braid, silica braid.
3) Wrap coil
4) Enjoy

I don't know if the 1/8" wicks as well as the 3/32", as correctly pointed out by harmonic. You could be the first to try though!

Other than that, yep, you got it. It doesn't take much torching to get rid of the string, a dull orange glow is plenty. Alternatively, many have had luck just gently unwrapping the rope, pulling the string out, and winding it back together, (it's VERY stiff, I'm going to try this on my next go around...it winds back together quite nicely).

For the wrap of oxidized mesh, it doesn't take much. I used about 10mm worth of mesh, maybe less...just enough to go around the wire rope wick once plus a slight overlap. Also, give the mesh a quick heating, (torch or lighter), to stiffen it up, makes it a lot easier to wrap it around the top of the wire rope. A bit of sticky VG or juice can help hold it on there while you wrap a coil around it. After you've wrapped your first coil on the mesh and dry fired it, that mesh will not move again unless you want it to, and coils can be rewrapped very easily.

Of course, you might not rewrap them that often. I've been on the same coil, mesh, wire rope wick for over a month now, at ~4-5mL per day, and it's still as good as new. (0.8ish ohm 28awg coil)

Amazon is cheaper in $/ft, but Mcmaster is likely cheaper in $/order because you can get less than 25 feet. Up to you.

My mcmaster order was for like 4 feet of 3/32 and 4 feet of 1/16 even though it says to order in only the lengts listed (25ft 10ft ect) and the shipping was 4 bucks. The total cost was like 10 bucks. Whish I had threw in a couple feet of the 1/8 too cuz dont want to pay the shipping again just for that unless I have more stuff to order lol

Thanks again!

I have a pair of these. I'd assume they'll cut through this rope like butter.

Probably, might fray it a bit, one way to find out. I use a dremel with a cut off wheel.

Some hardware store stuff is galvanized, which means zinc, which means bad things.

Oh, and for those of you who have trouble cutting it, apparently Steve at SNGVapor is going to start stocking these things too, precut to size, pretorched. He's apparently just working out the details now.

My family business is steel fabrication and i have been on the recieving end of getting sick from cutting galvanized steel with a tourch. Let me tell you it didn't kill me but i wished it had when the effects hit me. It's like the flu x10...cold sweats vomiting pounding head like I've never felt or ever want to feel again.

That was from inderect exposure....id hate to think what could happen if the fumes were directly inhaled!

Anyone know how to test if the SS wire is galvanized?

I heated mine in a flame and didn't get any white powder or strange smell. It looks and behaves like the SS mesh I use, which I'm pretty sure is not galvanized. Galvanized metal has a dull look to it, as far as I know. This wire is shiny like SS.

I bought mine from eBay and it said T316 marine grade wire.

Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks.

Wacko, was there a thread down the center? If so, did you remove it? Thanks for the link. Looking forward to trying this.

I bought T316 7x7 from ebay and it didn't have a nylon thread.

This thing wicks. I boiled the wire and mesh first. I set it up unoxidized on my Bliss. The flavor is I think the best I've ever had and it wicks non-stop. I can do a continuous burn at about 30 degree and it just goes and goes and goes, with a fresh 18650 battery on a Poldiac. Fantastic. Thanks.

There was no thread in the center but I am trying to figure out if it's galvanized. It doesn't look like it and it I didn't get any white powder when heated it. It is magnetic, however.

Ckeck the brand on what you find at home depo - the stuff from my mom & pop store said it was stainless but someone here found out from the brand it was galvanized which could be bad for you besides the galvanizing most likely impeeds the wicking ability

Thanks for the heads up. He said it was not galvanized but....do i want to take the chance of getting sick. I say no. So what is the safe kind to use for this? Thank You again.
