With my rope wick gennies, every night or two I use a syringe to suck the juice out, (or vape it down to near nothing), rinse the top deck and exposed wick/coil with hot water, squirt a few plungerfulls of hot water into the tank, and suck the water back out. A few shakes to fling off drops, and then press the button until the coil glows red. as the burnt juice burns off entirely, it can sometimes make hotspots/shorts...pulse through those, it's not tough. When it is burnt clean, I typically give it a quick brush with a brush to knock off the ash. Sometimes, I give it another quick water rinse and burn, just to rinse off the ash and then to dry out the wick.

Exact same procedure, Works great for me too.:thumb:

For those who ordered from ssdirect, my order is showing up at around $4, but the shipping is $25. Any way to reduce that? Geez, I mean that's just super hefty...

Surely you can buy local! all or most marine stores have this stuff as with caravan dealers (think you guys call them trailers). I just can't see any reason at all to use mail Canada to FL ?????
just googled this http://www.reidsupply.com/products/...cable/?fl=4294934424and4294934406&srt=pop-asc

I do about the exact same thing except for I do mine about twice a week, as soon as it starts getting muted basically. The only difference is after I've used hot water to get it mostly clean I finish with cold filtered water (I have one of those on-the-faucet Pur thingies) because my tap water tastes like boiled assmonkeys to say the least. If I don't use the filtered water my stuff won't ever taste right again.

So, I tried my hand at wire rope wick last night. 7x7 3/32. Torched, quenched, stainless mesh, torched etc etc etc. I could not for the life of me get the top coil to stop shorting out on the AGA-T+

Moved the setup over to the DID, and had some luck but still seeing some funky results with ohms jumping between 1.3 and 1.7 on a 4 wrap of 32 gauge wire.

What am I missing here?

How deep does the stainless mesh have to wrap around the wick? Am I causing a short around where the wick enters the tank?

Need some tips to make this work, please. :)

With a fast forward, let's just acquaint ourselves with this stuff before buying, skimming the surface type of attitude and research, I stumbled across this: "Stainless steel 316 is more corrosion-resistant than 304, due to the addition of molybdenum in the alloy".
Okay, that's cool, but what the heck is molybdoininmySSandwhatisit? Google sent me here Molybdenum and they state: "Molybdenum is an essential element in human nutrition, but its precise function and interactions with other chemicals in the body are not well understood. Some evidence suggests that too little molybdenum in the diet may be responsible for some health problems. Molybdenum is used to treat rare inherited metabolic diseases, such as Wilson's disease in which the body cannot process copper. More research is needed to learn whether it may have a role in preventing cancer and other diseases. It has shown promise in animal studies in reducing the harmful effects of certain cancer drugs on the heart and lungs."
and, of course, they say more, this is just an excerpt taken out of context for my own enjoyment.

Just thought it interesting.

Got some Nextel XC-116 to play with last week. I extracted the center 19 strands from my 3mm rope. That bundle is straight and slides easily inside the Nextel.

Flat resistance wire at 1 ohm

Wicking and flavor are outstanding! Quick to fire up with no heat sink issues.

I have only 7x19 2 mm and it works fine on DID and RSST.
If ohms are jumping, the most common issue is loose contact (mostly on the top screw).
Try 30 or even 28 wire. With 4 wraps you will get around 1-1.2 and 0.7-0.8 respectively.
I use only 28 wire - 0.7 ohms with mechanical, but then I don't know if you are using VV or mechanical mod.
Anyways, I think you will need a lower ohms to be able to burn the juice faster due to much better wicking (or flooding on RSST :)).
The main purpose of the stainless mesh wrap is to make contact area with the wire more even, so mesh doesn't have to go deep.
I've tried also without the mesh, just ribbon wire on ss rope and it works very well.

As stated in my next quote, forget the mesh! Get some XC or XS and your life will be SO much easier!

This is my tip for you: Forget the mesh.

Wrap the top 3/8 - 1/2" with silica or nextel and wrap your coil on that. This is still, 4 days later, the best vape I've experienced, by far.

Can't agree more. I'm using XS-18 (All I could find at the time) over 3/32 7x7 rope and it wicks til the tank is dry with zero hotspots or issues. I only need to clean it every couple of days, maybe twice a week. The XS holds up really well to a dry burn also.

My next project is some XS-116 with some 1/16 7x7 rope and a micro-coil, about 8-10 wraps or so. Gotta aquire the wick supplies and some suitable wire. I'm thinking 30awg NiChrome for lower resistance. Can't wait to see how the ceramic compares to the silica sleeving and the smaller rope should soak up a lot less heat.

miriam wth 350, short did, 3/32" steel rope, xc16, ~1.2

it really is true, it wicks like a monster and 0 red coils even after keeping it on for like 30 seconds...

That sir is a thing of beauty. Can't wait to get my XC-116 setup going in the next week or two.
