I am looking at this link provided earlier
McMaster-Carr

Which size and type works best on the RSST?
Thanks

I only have AGAs, but since this is my thread I've read every post in it...but grain of salt - not personal knowledge.

RSST should be 1/8", but I've read reports that the 1/8" rope doesn't QUITE fit, and requires removal of the insulator.

A lot of people have also commented that narrower rope wicks just as well, and has less of a heatsink problem, there are people using 3/32" and even 1/16" in various gennies. My thoughts are the rope wick so fast, you don't need the "fat wick" you do with mesh.

Thanks shortyjacobs and bigv69er, just finished reading all 61 pages, tons of great info!

Thanks for the offer bigv69er, but McMaster is like a couple of miles from me, so no issue for me with getting a hold of wire.

Does anyone have a coupon code for kidneypuncher? I am looking to stock up on Kanthal, XS, and some other odds and ends. I do not use the facebook, anyone willing to share?

Thanks

Thats an awful, awful price at BigTex... I wonder if its the same stuff exactly? Kidney advertises as "sleeving"... bigtex doesnt say anything about that.

Either way, I wont need much... I'm going to wrap it around my 3/32 7x7 SS rope... maybe just at the top, maybe down into the tank a little bit. Not sure yet. Excited hotspot-free sub-ohm coils of .8x.1 kanthal ribbon. Drool!

Hell, I'm pretty satisfied with a 400 mesh diaper atop my SS rope... 3/4 wrap of 28ga Kanthal. Im expecting the upgraded wick/wire to kick even more ......

i have been following this thread for awhile and decided to throw in my two cents worth :)
you guys considering using the nextel stuff for a diaper... be aware that this stuff does shed particles. wether or not it is safe i leave up to you, but when i was using it for a wick alone, i did develop a throat irritation.

i am waiting for my rope to come in from mcmaster, and i am thinking of using a cotton diaper. have been using a cotton U-wick in my aga t2 with some limited success. i am hoping the wire rope will greatly improve the vertical wicking issues i have had with the cotton.

What you got from BigTex is xC-116, what they sell at Kidney Puncher is xS-116. BigTex sells ceramic, Kidney Puncher sells silica, hence the price gap.

forgot to ask this question in my previous post,
have you guys running wire rope noticed a change in wicking performance at colder temps, IE higher ejuice viscosity ?

I have. I've found that very thick juices don't wick as well as thinner ones. By thinner, I mean around 85%vg in my diy juices, the rest vodka and flavoring.

Boba's, for example, wicks fine, but sometimes I stretch it by diluting in half with pure VG, (I do this also because I had a decent stock of 12mg juice and had switched to 6mg instead). When I dilute the Boba's with vg, I add 5%vodka so it wicks better, otherwise the higher vg percentage slows down wicking.

Ahhh... so the material is different... its just named similarly because of the braid? As opposed to normal silica that's just twisted together all willy-nilly?

Thanks, I feel better for having paid through my nose : D

If your experience with this stuff is anything like mine has been I strongly suspect that once you get a good vape with it you won't feel like you've overpaid, at all.

I'm amazed with this xc. My own vaping nirvana has been achieved with a hybrid wick including a mere half inch of 1/16 xc-116. I'll be starting a new thread about it later tonight.

miriam wth 350, short did, 3/32" steel rope, xc16, ~1.2

it really is true, it wicks like a monster and 0 red coils even after keeping it on for like 30 seconds...

Where did you get the XC sleeving and how did you get 1/16 sleeving over 3/32 cable without fraying it to death? I have XS-116 and can't get it to fit the 3/32, so I use the XS-18
