How often do you need to wash, soak, burn a coil?
The usual answer "as required" or "it depends" or "when you have problems" are not very helpful to a noob.
I have trouble getting through one fill with out having one problem or another, or both lol.
Clearly dark/sweet juices require it more often, but how often, every refill?
And light juices less often, but how less?

I'm using about 4ml a day, can't say I actually vape all of it, but thats about 4 refills after stuffing around. But I don't dismantle the heads and burn them 4 times a day.

So I'm just after a bit of guidance on when and what is needed.

Generally, your coils will last about a week. I would say for you, a week is a good estimate. I go through 5-6ml a day and I HAVE to clean mine like every 4-5 days. Although, leaving them to soak every night isn't a bad idea either and may help if your juices are generally thick, sweet, or dark. I usually just rotate 2 coils and soak them every 2 days. Vape for 2 days and then change coils and clean the old one.

Aside from that, whenever you change flavors is a good time to clean it up as well as anytime you think it tastes burnt.

It's a little iffy when trying to gauge the life of any piece, it is unfortunately "as required". lol

I used to clean mine with a hot water rinse after every 2-4 refills. I'd do a dry burn every few days or so - particularly when I noticed that vapor or flavor production was being affected. It really depends on the juice you are using as you mentioned.
I liked to fiddle with my clearos though, so sometimes I would do a burn after just one refill, just to see if the heads glowed red.

I could usually get 2-4 weeks out of one CE5 head and around the same from a vivi nova or EVOD / protank head.

I didn't really soak mine in alcohol, but since I moved to 510 atomizers and such, I do use the soak and have stopped dry burning.

Thats the problem with being a noob. You don't know if its a cleaning problem or not. I am using evods at the moment, if I puff too lightly the juice burns on the coil and you get little vapor, puff too hard and it floods and you get little vapor. And you've got to pull them apart to burn. Haven't worked out what to do about the flavor wicks.

Since my starter kit came with 2 Kanger T3's I always rise out my clearomizer after each tankful with hot water and set it aside to dry and use the other T3. Then about every 5 or 6 days I take them apart and do a dry burn. Doesn't matter if I'm using a light or dark liquid either.

Easy, just buy some 1mm silica wick and replace them each time you dry burn. You only use about 1/2 of an inch, so 12 feet will last quite some time.

+1 on the cotton.

I clean my coils/replace my cotton wick after every 6ml bottle in my Reo Grand. When I use other devices, it works to be about that often as well. Just seems like a nice easy spot. When I'm done vaping for the night, I clean my coils, replace my wick, rebuild if I have to (micro coils take about 4 minutes max and are pretty much foolproof) and get into bed.

Not to say anyone should do RBA's before they're ready. Just saying it seems to be once a day, or every 6 ml, whatever comes first.

thanks, that sounds like a good system. Do you burn them at all?

With the stock heads I do as the wicks are silica so they won't catch fire and burn up. I rebuild my heads using cotton though so not generally. You can't dry burn cotton, it's flammable.

I generally just let them dry for an hour or two and if I need it immediately, I put it in the tank and burn the water off that way so the juice will keep the wick from burning.

As for the flavor wicks, get rid of them! They are nearly useless, they just clog up the flow. If your juice is really thin like mine say from 70 pg/30 vg-100% pg, then just remove one or it may flood. From 50/50-100% vg, take them both out and it should make a world of difference. I started on Evods, and highly recommend them for newbies, so I learned quickly that 4-5 decent toots will result in a digusting dry hit at the end.
