I've been puffing on a e-cig now for about 24 hours and had about 3 analogs, just because they were there. Today I notice I have a dull headace and I find myself a bit anxious/restless. I keep heading for my usual smoking section of the house (garage) out of habit? I keep forgetting I can puff inside now. Im also getting a bit phlegmy , which I know is due to the cilia growing back on my esophagus expelling the crap out of my lungs. I know this is normal. Its amazing how our bodies heal themselves after years of us buring the cilia and keeping the natural function of keeping our lungs clean.
Has anyone else had any transitional experiences when they converted?

Wow, didnt think of that, now that I can puff and watch TV and work on photos, I probably am taking in too much nic. My analog habit was usually a pack every 3 days, mostly because of having been banished to the garage.If I was especially stressed or with other smokers I could go thru a pack a day.Im still on my first cartomizer since I started and from what I understand 1 carto is equal to a pack? Thank you.

I wish the "claim" about a carto being equal to a pack of smokes would just go away. At best, a carto might be equal to 6-8 smokes. With restrictions lifted, most folks find they vape more often than they smoked and depending on the nic level of the juice you use it's easy to go to far. The good point is you can clear your system quickly - drink water and don't vape for a bit...

Well, no... One carto doesnt equal a pack. That's a weasely thing that some e-cig suppliers will say. One regular size carto will equal maybe 4-6 cigarettes.

From your reported use (less than one cartomizer in 24 hours + a few cigarettes) I'd say you are probably not getting too much nicotine. Maybe not enough, or maybe just starting to miss some of the other chemicals present in tobacco smoke.

Another possibility is that you have actually used up the cartomizer and you are now burning it dry(ish). I know when I first started vaping my taste buds were kind of dead, and I found it hard to distinguish a full nice tasting carto from a used up nasty one. Most of us who have been doing this for a while refil our cartos when they start to get low. This can prolong the use of the carto, and keep it from burning. If you are using a carto that has very little juice left in it, you might be inhaling some burning filler and you will be getting next to no nicotine. Try popping a fresh carto on there and see if you can feel/taste a difference.

If you decide to upgrade to a Kgo, try ordering some liquids and topping off the used cartos from your current kit. You will find that you will be able to get much more use out of them.

I dealt with some discomfort when switching and I also went through a pack about every two to three days when I smoked. I had a constant headache for about 4 days, and it was very difficult to tell if I was getting too much nicotine or not enough.

The third day was the worst. I was tired, had a sore throat, and was coughing a lot. My headache was the worst, my muscles were sore and my gums would start bleeding periodically. I was afraid the vaping was making me sick, that maybe I was allergic to PG. Looking up my symptoms, however, I found that most of them were similar to the symptoms of quitting smoking. I ended up having a cigarette or two and would feel a bit better for a few hours after. By day four or five, I felt great, though I still had a bit of muscle soreness.

My advice would be to drink plenty of water. This will keep you hydrated as well as help flush out the toxins from smoking. Also, don't feel guilty if you need to smoke a bit here and there. The ultimate goal is to quit completely, but be kind to yourself. Even with the vaporizer, it can be hard. You may experience some discomfort from the vaping itself, such as muscle soreness or sore throat. Don't worry, it does go away. If in doubt, see a doctor.

Aside from all this, congratulations on the decision to switch and welcome to the community. Vape on! :toast:

Thank you all for your help. I didnt know I could reuse the one I got with the Hiltons, thats great.

You should be able to. I started with a similar type of kit. With the one I had it was hard to get the cartomizer tops off (they were glued in), but I was able to get them off by sticking a round nose plier into the hole and gently prying them off. After that they would pop off easily and could be refilled a few times before discarding.
 
I'm starting out week 3 with no analogs. So far I've experienced headaches, sore throat and dehydration. But the worst part for me has been the aching. I have had this muscle / bone aching. It's not that its a strong ache- just that it's lasted a while. I get the feeling I need to stretch quite frequently. Drinking water and stretching does alleviate the issues for me for the most part. However, on the other side of the coin for the first time in years I feel like I can actually taste and smell. It's kind of interesting to be going about my day and catch a faint scent of something I haven't smelled in years. Given that smell is strongly tied to memories it has been an odd yet exciting adventure so far.

I have a pretty good sense of smell even if Ive been smoking for over 10 years , so it might be scary when it gets even better. I hope I dont get aches and pains, as I already have problems similar to those you mention. I hope you feel better soon, I remember many of my friends that tried to quit smoking would feel horrible when they quit. They would complain of sore throats, and irritability, headaches etc. They found it ironic that they were doing it for their health and they felt worse.

I've experienced the mild to moderately sore throat issue, but find that drinking plenty of water helps with that. I've heard that this is a common reaction in the beginning, but don't know if this is true. Beyond that, my breathing, sinuses, and energy have all markedly improved. I smoked an ocassional analog during the early ecig experience, but I didn't crave them. I've been analog free for 13 days today, and have no craving whatsoever for an analog even though I have some on hand. I'll eventually toss them, or give them away.

Gum and patches did not work for me, as I still smoked analogs with those two methods. Ecigs give me something to hold, satisfies my desire for nicotine, and allows me to "puff"...pretty much replicating the analog experience. I love being free of the coulds of smoke surrounding me and hovering in the air. The ecig really has brought my desire for analogs to an abrupt halt, and I can't see any circumstances in which I'd return to analogs.

A very imortant issue for vapers, I think, is to keep plenty of everything on hand. I started with two batteries, and one died within the first two weeks. I was somewhat panicked because I knew that if the last good battery died, I'd have to resort to an analog. Since then, I've ordered plenty of batteries, cartos, and probably have enough juice for a year. Also ordered a charging kit with which I can charge batteries from the computer USB, wall outlets, and the car. During severe storms, winter and spring, I can lose power here for a week. If a serious storm is approaching, I'll have all of my batteries fully charged beforehand. If they run down, I can always go to the car and charge. I think it's vital to be covered for all contingencies. Perhaps I've gotten a bit off track. :)

I had phlegm every morning when I smoked, when I quit and started vaping it got very bad for a week or so and then disappeared, it only returns with too many "dry hits" when I am having trouble with my PV gear so I try to avoid them.

I also had mood problems, irritability anger and mild depression, I was known for my patience and optimism at work, I lost both for a while, this hit a low point at about week 3, and have been recovering ever since and am better than ever.

there are antidepressant chemicals in cigarettes along with many other chemicals that react with the brain, e-cigs do not provide these, some smokers are as addicted to these as much as the nicotine, if you find you are one of these look into e-juice with whole Tobacco alkaloids (WTAs), they may help you transition, I think that is why I was unable to quit for so many years despite desperately wanting to, it is not just one addiction it is many rolled into one. vaping allowed me to tackle them one at a time,


Along with phicho active chemicals we are addicted to the habit, this is why you want to go to the garage, i smoked outside, it was a break, a deep breathing excessive that calmed me, solitary contemplation that settled and organized my thoughts I came back ready and organized to strike at whatever the next task was.

go ahead and vape in the garage sometimes, its can be good, gives some of the benefits that smoking did without the downsides.

I, like most heard all the good behind the e-cig and how it is a great alternative and so much easier etc. But I didnt think it is not just nicotine, but all the other chems in the cigarettes they put in. I tried to switch to "healthier" cigarettes such as american spirit, shermans and cloves were worse than tobacco cigarettes on me. I have started going to the garage with the vape. It will take a while, and yes the solitude of smoking was part of it. When I smoked it was a solitary act, a comforting escape.

Yes, I experienced the same body-response when I traded smoking for vaping. The human body is indeed amazing in it's capacity to forgive and repair. :2cool:

i still go outside sometimes for a vape and follow old smoking habits but i to enjoy the "escape" it provides a bit of peace in my crazy days
