Adding my story into the ranks. I'm 32, I started smoking at 10. I vividly remember it... we were on vacation and there was a cigarette machine in the hallway of the hotel, and it happened to be completely out of view of everything. So there I was buying my first pack of smokes at 10 and trying them in the hotel public restroom.
I've been going through a lot of life changes. I started working out a lot and realized I was doing really well water jogging and swimming (aside from being the worst swimmer on Earth), but not with running or cycling. I did the same as the original post, I put down way too much on a Specialized bike and wanted to use it. But I failed terribly with quitting. Between getting laid off and racking up bills, I couldn't handle the stress.
But in the last year I've dropped 96 lbs. and changed pretty much everything else in my life... except for the cigarettes. I will thank Winston for my choice... see, mom begged me to at least switch off Marlboros a few years ago, so I did, and switched to Winston. Then Winston turned their hard pack design into some crazy, useless normal pack that also included a tear away on the top for some reason, because that was supposed to keep their soft pack users happy when they quick making the soft pack. All it actually did was make it so you lost two or three cigarettes in every pack, and with the prices going nuts, I couldn't afford that. But then I never found another brand I liked the tastes of, I just settled on Parliments.
One of my customers had the e-cig and began nagging me until I finally gave it a go just about two months ago. I'm glad I switched. But now I need a longer lasting battery! LOL!
